Been coming here since grad school in the early 2000s. Still good food after all these years. The nice owners work so hard to make delicious food. Too bad they no longer serve beer. Owner says SCU students got too rowdy with alcohol and causing trouble, so it’s not worth it to serve alcohol anymore. Thank the kids for ruining it for everyone.

For those who love an old skool hot pastrami sandwich, this is your place! Juicy pastrami and fresh bread with all the fixings! Many great reviews and it did not disappoint! I recommend washing things down with a lovely real banana milkshake. A new favorite and I’ll definitely be back!

We've been coming to the Hungry Hound since the kids were in grade school. It's been a staple in Santa Clara University area for a very long time. Menu is quite extended as family run eateries are. Something for everyone. I always get the Pastrami sandwich and it never disappoints. Very consistent, quality food. The owners are great people and provide excellent service with a smile and some neighborhood conversation. Only four stars on the atmosphere because the place has been there a long time and the decor shows that. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, you are going to eat there because the good food at a good value, not because of the pictures on the wall.
Parking: Some spots on the street in front and huge parking lot behind the shop.

1¹This place is awesome! I ordered a steak sandwich I got one of the best sandwhiches ive had in a long while, and it came out in a couple minutes, fresh and tasty.. The lady behind the counter is very nice and friendly. Good spot for a great lunch.
As far as I know. Hungry hound quality is very good fresh lady working at cashier I believe she is the owner very friendly husband working in the kitchen also very nice guy.

This is not about the food. This is about owners’ foolishness. Be aware they might close their shop anytime during the day.Once I went there Saturday at 2:30p and although they had to be open till 4, they said we close at 2 and didn’t let us in. I got more pissed off when I went back there on Tuesday at 3 and they had put a note on the door that they will return at 5. This is ridiculously awful way of business.I suggest you call them every time before you get there.
