waiting 40 minutes and not received any update, even our order disappeared on the monitor , the staff not reply to me anything.
Great matcha and perfect combo with the Hokkaido milk
They have a “grand opening” once a year. Needless to say, there’s a reason for that which becomes obvious when you taste their drinks— overpriced, syrup water
Prepare for a longer than expected wait time since the drinks and parfait require longer prep time. We stopped by on a Thurs 3pm and there were 2 staff working. We ordered 2 gelatos in a cup. Since there were a few orders ahead of us. It was a 20min wait. At least the order estimate was relatively accurate.
Matcha gelato:
Tried #4 and #5. I like #4 for gelato. I think I'd get #5 in a float since it can get pretty tea saturated. The matcha is a classic flavor without being overly grassy. The texture is smooth and creamy.
We also got Hokkaido milk and the Osmanthus fermented rice. The Hokkaido is rich and sweet. The osmanthus is fragrant and has a light fermented sweetness. It worked really well with #5 matcha.
Amazing strong matcha flavors!
Great staff helping out with sampling! Such authentic an flavorful matcha taste in the Gelato that we tried!
My sibling brought me here first time first ever, I'm thinking it was customer Lucy Liu, nor it was Ms Takigami.
They both look same can't tell nor my soul is completely depleting. I think I saw one of them in person.
Beautiful place plus gals to glance at . And there is a Starbucks similar across matsu.
I recently tried Matsu Matcha Gelato and was seriously impressed. The matcha quality really stands out - it tastes fresh, smooth, and vibrant without the bitterness you sometimes get elsewhere. You can tell they’re using good ceremonial-grade matcha and preparing it properly.
When I went for their soft opening a few months back, I was going to give it 1 star as their staff were confused, the service was terribly slow, and their PR manager was blocking gelato orders so that he could keep taking photos. I waited over 20 minutes for a single scoop with no one else in line because he made the poor employee scoop and re-scoop gelato over and over to finally get one aesthetic shot.
Coming back now that they're settled and have the hang of things, I'm pleasantly surprised with the improved decor and quality of matcha sold. I've tried the Xtra Strong Matcha Latte (amazing), Guava Matcha Latte (delicious), Coconut Matcha Cloud (very coconut-y), and Oat Milk Matcha Latte (yummy), all have a STRONG matcha taste. Gelato is also solid, number 5 being my favorite.
Removing 1 star as their service felt passive. The staff didn't acknowledge customers unless spoken to first and there wasn't much proactive assistance especially with trying gelato flavors. I had to go find a staff to ask questions and try flavors which made the experience feel distant. Also a cleanliness issue: employees' long sleeve uniforms are visibly dirty with gelato/drink stains and they are repeatedly brushing against surfaces and dipping into the open gelato displays. Does not give me confidence in their food handling practices.
I wouldn't buy the MK here as it is significantly overpriced compared to the official Japanese MK store, but it is regularly sold out.
I've been here in twice, and both times drinks was full of ice. It was mostly ice even though I paid $8. Extremely disappointing and not worth it. If you want customers to keep coming back, you should add an ice-level option or seriously reduce the amount of ice.
Restaurantji Recommends
Good matcha but too much ice
Also the wait is longer is because there is just 1 kiosk and some customers take forever so this place needs to either add one more kiosk or take orders at the counter
Recommend, especially their drinks.
Most people seem to get their ice cream, but in my experience their drinks are the best. I’ve had their seasonal Peach Rice Mochi Yogurt & their Mulberry Yogurt with boba and they were both really delicious. The boba is the perfect texture and doesn’t get too stiff even after sitting in an iced drink for a while.
Their yogurt drinks are made with traditional yogurt rather than a Yakult-like yogurt. They’re still very delicious and have a richer flavor than plain yogurt, though.
It’s not matcha, basically it’s strong green tea flavor
Tried the level 6 matcha gelato which wasn't bitter at all and had a good matcha flavor. Also tried my friend's hojicha which was yummy, not too sweet.
“I fear this matcha just ruined every other drink for me.”
Matsu Matcha in Santa Clara is that place—the kind where you take one sip and immediately understand the hype. The matcha is smooth & rich.
If you think matcha is “just green tea,” Matsu will humble you. This isn’t a drink, it’s an experience.
If you’re a matcha lover, this is a must. If you think you don’t like matcha, come here anyway — Matsu will change your mind.
Easily one of the best drinks in Santa Clara and not to mention their staff they’re so sweet and very helpful.
I’ll be back… often.
Tip- Go early their flavours finish fast.
