A Disappointing and Overpriced Experience at The Yellow Chilli, Santa Clara

We recently dined at The Yellow Chilli by Sanjeev Kapoor in Santa Clara, and I left feeling profoundly disappointed. The entire meal was a huge letdown, and for the price we paid, it was unacceptable. The food was consistently bland and flavorless, failing to live up to the restaurant's reputation.

We began our meal with a few appetizers: the paneer tikka, kachha kela shami kebab, and boneless chicken tikka. The paneer tikka was an absolute disaster. It tasted as though the paneer was simply wrapped in raw red chili paste—it was uncooked, lacked any seasoning, and had no flavor whatsoever. The shami kebab was equally awful; it seemed stale and had been frozen, then not even warmed up properly. The only saving grace was the boneless chicken tikka, which was the only decent dish of the night.

For our main courses, we ordered the butter paneer and puran singh ka chicken curry. Unfortunately, the disappointment continued. The chicken curry was shockingly bland, with no taste, no spices, and none of the depth you would expect from a dish at this price point. It felt like a significant waste of money.

In total, our bill came out to over $230, and for that amount of money, we expected a truly exceptional dining experience. Instead, we got one of the most disappointing meals we've had in a long time. I would strongly advise anyone considering this restaurant to save their money and look elsewhere.

We visited The Yellow Chilli by Sanjeev Kapoor for dinner. The food was decent, with a good variety on the menu. The ambiance was nice, and the service was attentive. Overall, a good dining experience!

The food is great!
It’s slightly on the expensive side compared other Indian restaurants but I feel it’s absolutely justified considering the fact that the food is great, the service is top notch and ambience is great.
And also I must say,
The Quality of food is amazing and it genuinely shows they care about the products they use.

Good food and service. Went for dinner and they had good vegetarian options. Drinks were ok, food was good and the ice cream was great. Good service and atmosphere.

The food here is slightly overpriced but it tastes really good. However, we had a very unpleasant experience with the hostess (I believe her name is Sapna). We had a small baby with us and she refused to give us a booth table saying it is reserved for 6 people ( we were 4 people plus baby). She proceeded to give us another 6 seater table right in the center of the restaurant which made no sense. It only added to our discomfort in keeping the baby. I requested her for the booth table, considering there was another family of 4 plus baby sitting in the adjacent booth and there was no crowd or waiting. She refused and made no sense - almost as if deliberately wanting to make our dinner experience unpleasant. In a final attempt, my mom had to go ask her and let her know that keeping the baby in the middle of restaurant would just disturb the people around. Then she probably understood that she was being unreasonable and let us use the booth table. We had called ahead of time and reserved a table, let her know that we have a baby and even on the phone she very rudely told us not to bring the stroller but to only get the car seat. Then when we followed the rules and got the baby in our car seat, she asked us to bring the stroller to the table instead of giving us the booth, which was basically her just changing the rules per her whim. Please don’t call yourself child friendly or market your restaurant as kid friendly if your staff is so rude to people with kids. That’s false advertising. When I had called ahead of time to check and reserve my table, you should’ve let me know that the restaurant isn’t ideal for kids. The waitress who served us (also named Sapna) was very very sweet and cooperative though. She was amazing!

We came here for a bday dinner. Service was pathetic and food was average at best. We asked for water and extra bowl with each taking 15 mins at minimum. We had to leave half way and go elsewhere for our dinner. Poorly understaffed and didn’t expect this kind of service for the upscale experience that they claim to offer.

Note: wouldn’t recommend ordering the veg roll. It tasted like frozen ones and oil leaves an after taste

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The food, ambience, and service were all top-notch. Viran took great care of our orders and offered some excellent recommendations. The dishes were mild in spice, likely tailored to suit a global palate.

Unfortunately the worst indian food I’ve had in Sunnyvale. Really bad food. Overpriced. Tasteless. From the papad to the soup to the bread and curry. Really really bad.
