Security here is a joke. A family member of mine had a service animal with them and security kept harassing her about. When I confronted the 1st security officer about the harassment and mention a lawsuit her parent started to become belligerent, cussing at me in front of my family and other families. I then proceeded to guest services to filed a complaint. These security officers are not trained to deal with the public but yet have hundreds of guest a day. Had the first security officer told us about getting a service animal pass we would not been in the situation. Filed a company with BSIS for harassment of a service animal and harassment of a person with a disability. Will be following up with BBB
I am extremely disappointed to share that my family’s recent visit to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk was overshadowed by a deeply upsetting experience involving my mother, who is legally blind and uses a guide dog. Within minutes of entering the park, was approached by security and told that both she and her service dog needed to wear identifying stickers. Yes, actual stickers while on the property. When we calmly explained that this is not only unnecessary but a violation of her rights under the ADA, we were told that if we didn’t comply, she would be escorted off the property. Let that sink in: a senior woman with a guide dog was threatened with removal for simply exercising her legal right to access a public space with her service animal. This demand not only violates the Americans with Disabilities Act, but also strips individuals of their dignity and privacy. No one should be forced to “label” themselves in order to exist in a space, especially not someone who is already navigating the world with additional barriers. She left shaken and incredibly disappointed. Santa Cruz Boardwalk needs to take a serious look at its policies and provide proper training to its staff. Inclusion isn't optional, and violating the rights of disabled individuals is not only wrong, it’s illegal.
I love The Boardwalk. It's always a good time over there. Everything about a beach town is always fun. Such an amazing vibe everytime I go.
