We were so excited to use Buttercup for our wedding, but due to COVID we had to postpone. As we got closer to our wedding date, we tried to get in contact with Buttercup through email, phone, and social media. After trying for weeks, we had to go with a different bakery and lost our deposit. I know businesses have been hit hard by COVID, but communicating with us or being responsive would have been the right thing to do.

Wonderful all around! I was able to order my cake, pay for it, and schedule my (free!) delivery all by email. I ordered the 6" vegan Blood Orange cake with Earl Grey frosting and it did not disappoint. It was a very dense cake (which I love) that was packed with flavor and was very moist. It was a hit, even to those who are not vegan. Will most definitely be ordering from here again!

Buttercup made our wedding cake and mini cupcakes for our 9/5/2020 wedding DESPITE the fact that their kitchen tragically burned down in the most recent fires. We were so impressed they were still able to fulfill our order and everything turned out so amazingly. The wedding cake was beautiful and delicious (a lot to ask of a wedding cake!), as were all of the mini cupcakes. The carrot cake as the bottom layer was so so good! Wishing the owner and staff all the best and a speedy restart to the business.

I placed an order and accidentally picked the wrong pick up day . Somehow they managed to push my order through and I was able to come back an hour later to pick up my order. I was completely shocked. Amazing customer service and great vegan options!

It's Covid 19 times. My son is turning 5 years old, no birthday party with lots of friends :( We decide to throw a virtual birthday where we have cupcakes delivered to our family and friends. We have one family in Santa Cruz who is vegan, and we can't find anyone who can deliver, is open, and makes yummy treats until we find Buttercup. The most beautiful, delicious cupcakes arrive at my friends house freshly baked and in time to blow out the candles on our computer birthday party. So thankful that Buttercup exists! Best bakery, beautiful cupcakes, friendly and helpful staff. Helped make a challenging situation that much sweeter!

These are the best cupcakes I have ever eaten. It's also about the most charming venue you can imagine! My only reservation is the last time I was in the shop, I saw the ladies behind the counter putting raspberries as a final garnishing touch onto some cupcakes -- and they didn't bother washing the berries, just took them straight from the plastic clamshell to the cupcake. Needless to say, I picked the raspberry off my cupcake. Please, please wash produce before giving it to customers! (This worried me especially in an era of coronavirus, when attention to cleanliness and detail is so important.)

I ordered gender reveal cupcakes one day in advance. They were able to accommodate my special request/order and they executed it wonderfully! Could not be more happy with the look, taste, secrecy, and timely manner they did it. So happy to have a business like this locally. I handed them an envelope with the gender insider from the doctor, they took it, and by looking at the cupcakes on the outside there was no telling what color was inside, unless you took a big middle bite. Thank you again!!! super happy.

This place is a DREAM! When you walk in, it's like something out of a film, so perfectly decorated. Everything from the paint to the subtle details in each corner of this shop is stunning. The customer service is great, everyone is very helpful and patient with any questions one might have. They had an amazing selection of cupcakes (hibiscus, orange, etc) as well as other pastries and treats. Everything looks delicious! Even their savory stuff looked amazing (limited). We had the tuxedo cupcake, the triple orange, the hibiscus and I forget which other one we had. We had the mini cupcakes. Anyway, the triple orange was SO GOOD (perfect flavor for a summer wedding was my thought when I first tried it), the hibiscus was interesting (the bf didn't like it but I did) and the tuxedo was a bit basic but still very very good. They do wedding and event cakes in any of these flavors too! I recommend it absolutely!
One of the not so impressive tea services... I love trying out tea services at various sports in the Bay Area and this one was disappointing. Please don’t charge extra for jam and clotted cream. Scones were not authentic, the clotted cream was mediocre. The food was unimpressive and seemed American than British. Their selection of cupcakes is impressive but the tea service needs a lot of work.

If you are planning a wedding in the bay/coastal area, I HIGHLY recommend having Buttercup Cakes provide your wedding cake and/or desserts! We met with Annie for a tasting and got to try so many delicious and unique goodies. We settled on a three tiered cake with each layer a different flavor, plus 8 different desserts. Best of all, they were able to make a layer of our cake and some of the desserts gluten free and vegan! They also provided very nice dessert stands and platters. Our wedding was in Carmel and they provided delivery (via their refrigerated truck, major bonus to keep everything fresh!) All of guests loved our cake and desserts, there were absolutely no leftovers! Annie and her team were such a pleasure to work with, my fiancé and I plan on getting an "anniversary cake" from them to celebrate 1 year.

Bravo! Having a child that needs to be gluten free and dairy free makes finding a cake difficult to say the least. Buttercup Cakes hit it out of the park with their carrot cake. It tasted amazing and you would never guess it used "alternative" ingredients. My daughter was over the moon and so were our other guests. Packed full of flavor and beautifully made.
