Poke tasted questionable.
I bought some mussels. They were not fresh. Only 1/2 of them opened on steaming. Did not smell great either. I think they were leftovers as I got them when they first opened at 10 am.
Just before the employee was about to shuck my order of 6 oysters, I saw him picking his nose. I would suggest that all employees be reminded why that isn't a good idea. Signed, never going back.
I discovered H&H several years ago. I drive from Los Angeles to Santa Cruz to shop at this fish market for myself and friends. All of their seafood selections are delicious. My friends tell me it is the best fish they've every had. I highly recommend H&H in Santa Cruz...!
Awesome fish! Amazing staff. Highly recommend!!
Vendor is so knowledgeable and friendly and the quality of the dish is always amazing
We were very disappointed with the $$ king salmon we bought a few days ago. It was tough and tasteless.
After their kind response we went back and talked to them and they were so wonderful- I altered my review
I am a member of the CSF Fish Club and love it! I wasn't home on the usual pick up, so I stopped by on Wed. and got a piece of fresh local Halibut. It was absolutely delicious. I so look forward to each week to see what we are going to get. 90% of the time, I use the recipes which they give along with the fish they are giving out online for the week. The recipes are really good. They are usually pretty easy to follow and end up with awesome results. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful Fish and Seafood Market so close to Live Oak. What could be fresher than picking it up at the Yacht Harbor????? Great Work! Love H & H!!!!
Haven’t tried this place yet but after reading the reviews re oysters’ flavor and varying seasons, spawning, etc
I learned so much just by the review and the owners attentive response being thoughtful and informative, I am now convinced that I should give this restaurant a try:)
I’ll edit after I try it?
The fish couldn't be fresher unless you caught it yourself. I don't fish, so I look forward to my "share" each Tuesday. Whether I use recipes provided by H&H or find my own, I have enjoyed every bite. It's a pleasure to be a part of this careful stewardship of our ocean's bounty.

Of course all the fresh
The staff was friendly and helpful
They have sashimi grade fish
I am so appreciative of good quality fish. It is so hard to find. When you get used to the fish from HandH, you can no longer get excited about fish from whole foods or restaurants ( that charge much more for less quality).
In this current toxic world, please think about choosing ethical, conscious providers of your food.
Thank you everyone at H&H , especially Heidi and Hans for so many years of feeding my family the freshest most sustainable fish you can.
I’m super disappointed in their oysters and would not have said anything if it this was a one off occurrence. But, since this is the 2nd time of them were not fresh, I had to comment. The dozen oysters had a barn-straw flavor and were inedible(both times).
While their H&H fish we get is wonderful, I’ll not be buying their oysters again. ?
Hi
Thanks for your response. The oysters I bought were purchased on Saturday, 8/17 at 11am.
I didn’t realize that one could tell that oysters were spawning during the shucking process. I wish I had known as I would have passed on em. Next time I go in for shellfish I will ask about how old they anre and where they’re from. No worries about giving me a freebie in the future. Overall, I love your fresh fish, but will need to reconsider the oysters. Thanks again for your conscientious response.
