Always get the buffet and it comes with chai! So good! Eat here a couple times a month.

Absolutely delicious!!! So flavorful and fresh. The service was great too. Nice ambiance and great prices. The perfect spot when you want legit delicious Indian without the pretension.

I'm so happy that the all-you-can-eat buffet opened again! I enjoy Royal Taj's absolutely delicious food with a lovely dining experience (think cloth napkins) for an affordable price. Their naan is perfect and they have a big menu with plenty of vegan/vegetarian options. I also regularly order takeout, and the portion is enough for two meals for myself. Lots of parking and indoor seating.

Weekday buffet ($17.99) review Jan 2024. Generous lunch hour seating available 11:30am to 4:45 pm. Was greeted at door and was asked to seat myself anywhere. Place hasn't changed since pre-pandemic days. Exterior dated, inside can use a bit of TLC, but it's light and doable with a little help from a wall of windows. Small salad, condiment, dessert area lit by purple accents lights? Slightly over priced for a small selection of choices which include vege pokora appetizer, rice and Naan that's oddly not served individually table side but in a communal pan. Today there were 7 entrees (only 2 of which were meat). Oddly, they served the legs only for the Tandoori chicken? And don't forget the purple accent lighted area - dessert which was Gulab Jamun (Indian milk donuts) and seasonal fruit Pros: *Cloth (black) napkins, nice touch for lunch. *Buffet area kept reasonable refreshed & clean *Chai included in buffet, would have preferred a bit more spice but mild, sweet and warming. Cons: *"Gender Neutral" bathroom very dirty, no seat covers but least had soap and hot water. *Service business like (no smiles from any of the staff) minimally hospitable. Quiet like dining in a church kitchen. Value: 2 1/2 out of 5 Atmosphere: 3 out of 5 Service: 2 1/2 out of 5 Bathroom: 1 out of 5 Verdict: Bit under 3 out of 5

One of my favorite restaurants. I have come here over 20 times. They give an awesome free appetizer while you wait for your order. The food is very good and fresh. They also have the nicest staff there as well. The restaurant is clean and friendly. I recommend this place to absolutely everyone I know. You will not regret coming here.

Absolutely fantastic! This place is a Santa Cruz icon with much earned longevity. Service is excellent - prompt and professional. The food is delicious, not too salty with a very creative yet traditional menu. They've got a spacious parking lot and the place is handicap accessible. Clean bathrooms. Dining room is always tidy. The crew takes pride in their restaurant and it really comes through. The menu, though not vegetarian, is very vegetarian friendly. They've got a buffet at lunch and on the weekends - or, tableside service if you prefer. Good beer and wine selection. Lol... I could go on, but I think that covers everything. Give this place a try.

I'm so glad that they have a buffet again! Now, if they would charge a little more, they could serve goat and lamb like they did before. People will pay the price. Let's get the buffet back to the way it used to be. I used to eat there twice a week for lunch, their food is so good!

My husband and I stopped here for dinner on a vacation. I was expecting to pay a steep bill because the menu items looked a bit expensive and I was hoping to try a few things. To my delight, they had a dinner buffet with a wide variety of delicious choices for $20 a person. It was well worth it, with extremely tasty house-curated masala chai tea to round out dinner. And everything but the naan was gluten free. I wish we had this restaurant at home!!!

Got take out here. The butter chicken, basmati rice and garlic naan were great! The lamb vindaloo was good, but could have been a lot spicier -next time I will know to ask for it hot!
