Freshest sushi with a nice atmosphere and great service. The protein roll is the best! Only place that I have found that has something like this.

Visiting from out of town and my husband picked this place. As a studio Ghibli fan I loved the art on the walls. It was very creative and welcoming. We ordered rolls that were super good. The prices vary but I felt like they were affordable for a nice night out.

This place is an absolute gem of Santa Cruz. I've been coming to Santa Cruz for over 20 years and my hubby lived in that area for a few years. Everytime we go we end up in the typical tourist spots like the pier despite wanting to try something new. We randomly saw this place and pulled into the parking lot just before passing it. The staff were friendly and especially helpful and considerate of our 1 year old son. The food was all SO DELICIOUS. It came out in a timely manner and there was an abundance of options. Can't wait to go back. They do close on the earlier side but well worth it for an early dinner.

Kid-friendliness: They have a few highchairs and more kid friendly bowls for their miso.

Super cute & fairly priced Japanese restaurant in Santa Cruz! Their interior is covered in incredible Ghibli-themed black board drawings. Their agedashi tofu, miso soup, and dragon roll are absolutely delicious! Their lunch deals are also very worth it. Definitely recommend!

Came here for the first time after driving past it all the time. The food was pretty good, I did some sides /appetizers and a roll.

I ordered:
Takoyaki
Sweet Potato Fries
Tempura Roll

Over all the experience was great, the place is a tiny bit cramped while i stood to order but I'm sure you'd be more comfortable sitting. The decor is cute, chalk drawings and little pictures here n there.

The food was good.
My Takoyaki didn't have any bonito flakes and had very light sauce , not sure if it comes this way or if I was done this way because I ordered Togo.
The sweet potato fries were a bit soft and I think they'd be better if they were on the crispier side but they were hot and came with a delicious sauce.
The Tempura roll was good.

I think I'll come back and try more food!

This was genuinely there worst sushi I have ever had in my life. It has too much rice and I couldn’t even tell which roll I was eating it was so bad. I would rate zero if I could. I never complain about sushi but this was so bad I cried

I had no idea what I was walking into but this is by FAR the best sushi place I’ve ever been in. The portions are quite bit and very filling which is usually my issue with sushi restaurants. The staff was super fun to chat with and our food came out quick. Will be back again!!!

First time here with the new management. There are lots of interesting rolls, but nothing sounded like my mood right then, so I described what I wanted and they made an exquisite custom roll for me. There was so much that my lunch companion (who ordered a very fresh & delicious salmon sashimi) got to share in the bounty and was equally pleased. The miso soup was also excellent. The chalk walls make for a fun atmosphere. The server and owner were great. We will be back soon!

The Udon Sakuyaki was good, seemed like fresh ingredients and rich broth. However, my friend’s beef udon was soggy, broth was watered down and flavorless. The atmosphere was ruined by loud and obnoxious music that sounded like it came straight out of a middle school dance. We felt like we were going crazy. Complimentary miso is a nice touch but it would be better if we got spoons to eat it with.

Horrible atmosphere. Loud, dumb millennial music. Over priced yet watered down. Semi decent fish. Do not come here, this is NOT an authentic place by any means. NOT WORTH THE PRICE OR EXPERIENCE.

We had such a great experience at Sushi Totoro! The dragon rolls were absolutely delicious—fresh and flavorful with the perfect balance of textures. The gyoza was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, just how we like it!

What really made our visit special was how much our kiddo loved the Totoro-theme. he chalk art on the walls kept us entertained while we waited for our food.

Overall, we were so impressed with both the food and the relaxed vibe. We’ll definitely be back for another family sushi night!
