As a Mexican, maybe I expect more out of a taco- they were ok, edible but not pleasant. Very oily carne asada, poor quality meat, and the smallest amount of onion/cilantro I’ve ever seen. Salsas were good, helped to cover the oily and otherwise tasteless meat. If you don’t know what a real taco should be, you’ll love it.

Overhyped & Underdelivering
I’ve given this taco truck three chances. The first two visits were decent in terms of food, but the poor customer service has been consistent and my last experience sealed the deal.
The owner comes across as unwelcoming, almost as if you’re bothering him. There’s a self-service kiosk, but no clear signage for pick-up vs. to-go orders, which can be confusing. On my most recent visit, I’d ordered ahead to avoid the long line, yet stood off to the side unsure where to pick up. This is when I came to the realization that others are just as confused on where to order or pick up. I think the reason many people enjoy this spot is because they’re drunk from the brewery or wine tasting and don’t know any better. So when I tried to politely get the attention of “Chuy,” I barely got the words “excuse me…” out before he cut me off with an irritated, “I’m making food!” It was dismissive, embarrassing, and completely unnecessary.
Thankfully, another employee finally helped me, but by then the damage was done and to make matters worse, my order wasn’t even good this time. Between the rude treatment, lack of organization, and mediocre food, I won’t be returning or recommending this spot. In a small town food scene, customer service matters just as much as flavor, and this place is coasting on hype rather than hospitality.
The Real Taco is right around the corner from here and offers better food/service!

Awesome food truck offering. Located next to a cool dining and wine area. Seating close by in front of the coffee shop. Generous portions at reasonable pricing. Flavors were fantastic.

Tried three tacos - carne asada, pastor and birria - by far the carne asada was the best. Good balance of flavor. The other two were just okay. There’s no seating - just a food truck. Need to grab and go and take to a brewery nearby or eat I the curb. It wasn’t busy. No greeting or face to face ordering. You simply order on a kiosk and someone calls your order when done.

We are so happy with our decision to serve Chuy’s tacos to our guests at our wedding welcome party. Months before the event we came and sampled all the tacos. For the event we ended up going with carne asada, chorizo, al pastor, and vegetarian. The chorizo is especially outstanding! Everyone LOVED the tacos, Chuy and his team were really nice, and they kept the line moving really well! Chuy was easy to work with in planning the event. Highly recommend!!!
If you are European, do not go here. Worst would ever. Better go to Chipotle. NO FLAVOR. FAT EVERYWHERE. 90 PERCENT RICE. JUST DISGUSTING

My Burrobirria was so delicious with savory consome for dipping and drinking. My friend got the Ramen and absolutely loved it. His fiancé didn't like her regular burrito as it had too many peppers in it. I topped off my meal with cider at Tanuki vineyards which went perfectly. Totally worth the drive from Monterey.

Forgot about our order
I’ve been going here for a couple of years now and it’s my go to spot in Santa Cruz for Mexican food. All their meats are good and they are one of the few places that does tripe right. Also, taco tuesdays are huge here with $2 tacos and then you can go get a beer at one of the local breweries. Overall, great prices for great food served by great staff. Definitely worth checking out and keeping in your eating out rotation.
I tried the veggie burrito and chips and guacamole. The veggie burrito was mostly rice, beans, and crunchy vegetables with little flavor. The guacamole was about 1/3 tomato which is not my thing. The chips were very good and the outdoor seating is a nice place to hang out.
