Food was great! I got a chorizo burrito. My girlfriend got birria tacos and she said they were the best she ever had. Parking isn't great, but it's worth it

Easily one of the better taquerias in Santa Cruz. Great size to their burritos!

I’ve gotten the pastors burrito and the California vege burrito both were amazing. So fresh and yummy and then salsas compliment it so well.

Got the California vegetarian burrito with no cheese and pico. I'm a new vegetarian and I was worried about it being not being as good but was so wrong the burrito was delicious and fresh.

I had just eaten a 3-course meal at Bad Animal (Hanloh residency--my second favorite Thai restaurant after Kin Khao in San Francisco!) and thought, "I could really go for some tacos." Taqueria Jalapeños was nearby and on the right side of jank for me to check it out. Unfortunately it was like, 9:50 PM, so I resigned myself to gazing wistfully at the menu from outside. After all, I'm not gonna roll into the shop 10 minutes before closing. The place was empty, and they were obviously cleaning up. Out of the blue, a guy rounds the corner with broom in hand saying, "You can come in, you know!" I didn't immediately register he was an employee (I was tired) and lamented, "They're closing in 10 minutes." He waved us in anyway, and shuffled into the store and took our order. I'm guessing since we were in there, people assumed it was still open. By 10, there was a crowd and the workers ended up closing late. Sorry! Despite the fact that it was literally closing time and he was justifiably exhausted, he beamed at us when we gave him our order. I don't normally rate on service or ambience (I personally only care about food), but he was extremely friendly. Now on to the food: it was good. My "measure" for checking out a new place are the carnitas, lengua (mostly because it's my favorite), and salsa. For carnitas, I'm looking for crispy outer parts and soft, confit-like inner parts. For lengua, I prefer large chunks, so I can get the full texture of the tongue. Neither should be too salty, and they should pair well with the house salsa. Taqueria Jalapeños' salsa is bright, sour, and disarmingly spicy. It goes perfectly with the rich meat, but the heat sneaks up on you. It went from "This is pretty mild" to "Oops" real quick. Get an agua fresca! TL;DR Taqueria Jalapeños hit all my requirements.

We got the carnitas super burrito. The burrito had good stuff inside - beans, rice, Guac, sour cream. Also it was quite big for the price and I was able to share it with girl. The lady was nice and the food was pretty good but the carnitas was not as crispy as I would like. Also not much seating but overall a good place to check out! A lot of options to choose from at this joint

We stopped at this divey spot this weekend after an event at the nearby SC Warriors arena. The place seemed dirty and we didn't get much greeting when we arrived. We were the only customers around lunchtime. The burritos were not great and my daughter said the tomatoes were gritty and tasted like dirt. Other daughter (only one who got the carne asada) developed food poisoning that evening and had 24 hours of no fun. (Other than that meal we all ate the same things - so can pretty confidently do the math.) We like authenticity and supporting small, local businesses but this one may need to do some regrouping (and cleaning) and also make sure their food is fresh. Hopefully this was a one-off but we won't be back to find out.

Stopped here on a recommendation and it did not disappoint!! It's a hole in the wall type of place & I think we even drove past it. As soon as you walk in though, it smells authentic. For me, it was like stepping into my mom's kitchen which is where I will always find the best food. We ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito, kids' bean burritos, an asada burrito, & a Chile relleno burrito. We were given complimentary homemade tortilla chips plus a green & red salsa. The burritos were big & full, the food was delicious, the salsas were good- the green one was perfectly spicy & flavorful. We will definitely be back!
