Such a neat place! We really enjoyed this spot. Service and drinks! Their house drink menu is very unique and fun! Definitely recommend if you're visiting Santa Cruz! The entrance is around the back of motiv off pearl alley but if it's after 9:30p you'll need to go to motiv first to get stamped anyways.

Had so much fun letting the bartender make a bespoke non-alcoholic (well..low alcohol) cocktail. The lamb crunchwrap from Chef Donnie Suesons was beyond satisfying and not a kitchy highbrow lowbrow play at all, just a new kind of exactly right hexagon wrap bursting with different textures and flavor, paired with lamb consommé. 🤯

OKAY WOW!! If you’re considering - just go already!

The drinks: made with love, care, detail, and seasonal flare.

The food: literally to die for. We tried the pork belly fries and the pork belly crunch wrap.

The pork belly fries were topped succulent, flavorful, and absolutely cooked to perfection pork belly.

The pork belly crunch wrap (Taco Bell inspired) BLOWS it out of the park!! I mean I had half of one order last night with my work team, and the other half for breakkie this morning AND came back again tonight with friend and had it.

Also, the chef is so nice and personable.

LIKE WOW. Yummy food and great service. WOW!!!

The Studio Ghibli cocktails were fantastic! I loved the "Waiting with Totoro" and my wife loved the "Full Moon Departure." We didn't get to try the food, we had just eaten and found the place by accident. 5/5 friendly bartender but I can't for the life of me remember her name (we were there on 8/31/24 in case the managers want to give her a bonus).

Had a great time at Ulterior! The drinks are delicious and made by a really amazing and friendly bartender, Zoe. The food was soooo good. Food talk knocked it out of the park. I got the burger with the waygu butter confit and hot damn it was good.

Drinks are alright but not worth standing for 30 minutes at a bar that's not even that crowded. Apparently there's food here but it's been impossible to acquire a menu for drinks or food, so I wouldn't know. It's great if you like to wait I guess, but I don't

The food was awesome twice in a row. Drinks are unique and yummy. Very chill spot. Food portions much bigger than expected and the flavors were unique and delicious.

Vegetarian options: We are all the vegetarian options because we are vegetarian. All were really unique and delicious. And good portions.

Came here after discovering the red room upstairs is no more. Quickly discovered this isn’t a substitute. There is no vibe to speak of - it completely lacks ambience. The menu promises creative drinks, which I love. My partner and I each ordered a $13 cocktail. They were pre-mixed, and mine tastes overly sweet, like stadium pink lemonade. The music was loud and random and whoever was DJing couldn’t commit to a song, lots of skipping. Overall an odd experience, not sure what this place is trying to be.

Is this place a sticky college bar or cocktail lounge. It has the musty smell of a dive bar and the decor/music/vibe of a college dance bar. But it’s a cocktail lounge??Came to here for some cocktails. We ordered two drinks off the menu, pinky promise and holla-daq girl. The holladaq girl is interesting and okay. Pinky promise was too seeet and borderline undrinkable. Both drinks were premixed. With tip I spent $30 for both. The cocktails were not good, bottom line. Will never come back here. Two stars is honestly generous..

Great drinks. The chef, Gavin, came out and introduced each dish, and all 5 we had were great.
