I had such high expectations for The Range, as their ratings are excellent, and it was recommended by a local. Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great, and we won’t be back. It did have great decor, ambiance, and friendly staff. The garden salad was great as well. However, I ordered the $55 ribeye, and the couple of bites I had were full of gristle. I told the waitress, who took it back to the kitchen to get me another. What happened next was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. A waitress came back and said that the chef suggested I get the filet instead because a ribeye is going to have lots of marbling, and if he made another, he was afraid I wouldn’t like that either. I said that ribeye is what I always eat. I am well aware that it has marbling, which is why I love it. I have never had that much gristle in a ribeye. She went back in the kitchen, and another server came to the table and said that the chef had cut all the ribeyes today from the same cut of beef, and another steak would likely be the same. Again she asked if I would prefer a filet since it wouldn’t have the marbling. So, after four times of having someone come to the table, I said fine to the filet, which I absolutely didn’t want. I was incredibly embarrassed at having so many visits to our table about my meal, that I honestly just wanted to leave. Our entire party was done with their meals by the time I got mine. The filet, while cooked perfectly, was tasteless. I took a couple bites and got a to-go box. For $55, I expected an amazing meal. Super disappointed.
🤌🏻 The Range in Santa Margarita! Cah only. Best to make a reservation - youll need to call the land line.
Flavors on point from salad to desert 💕🙌🏻. Great servers and met some cool people in the inside where the seating can be close and intimate. Can't wait to go back and try that butternut squash ravioli.
*garden salad with the best goat cheese Ive had. I dont usually order it but I will deffinatly order it here.
*8oz filet seasoned to perfection and sooooo tender at medium well. Seasonal veggies steamed perfect and mashed potatoes with the yummiest little noodles on top that made the texture out of this world. 🤌🏻
*Lavendar honey creme brule that was soooo delicious. The very end note of the combination is great - creamy, caramelized sugar and lavender that had a slight fruity pebbles cereal after taste. Fantastic.

Amazing food and amazing people <3 a must try!
Two things to remember when coming to this restaurant. It’a CASH ONLY and EVERYTHING is amazing. The staff are super nice. Lots of daily specials with catch of the day, local meat, and local vegetables. And if you’re lucky, you might catch a very intimate live music experience! Call ahead for a reservation, especially on weekends! Can’t recommend it enough!

Opened by Jeff and Lindsay Jackson, The Range has been a Santa Margarita staple for over 20 years. It’s celebrated for its “country-style institution” vibe, blending hearty, farm-fresh meals with a honky-tonk atmosphere—think George Jones tunes and string lights. The Jacksons emphasize local sourcing from nearby ranches and growers, maintaining a cash/debit-only policy (no credit cards) and a low-tech, community-focused ethos..The family also runs Rosalina Cantina nearby.
The Range specializes in steaks (e.g., filet mignon with Gorgonzola-wine sauce, Angus beef carpaccio) and American classics like pomegranate BBQ ribs, lamb chops, and fresh salads with local produce. Notable dishes include cornmeal-crusted calamari, pan-seared salmon, and homemade desserts like lavender crème brûlée. Vegetarian options and kid-friendly meals are available. Portions are generous, with entrees ranging from ~$25–$50+, though reviewers praise the quality-to-price ratio. The outdoor patio with twinkling lights is a highlight for al fresco dining, though some note occasional bugs in warmer months. Dine-in and takeout are offered; no delivery.

Cash-only hidden gem located outside of SLO didn't disappoint.
French onion soup was an outstanding starter, and the entrees (Lamb chops and smoked brisket) were top notch.

Dined with a party of seven. Service was prompt. The highlights were the brisket and ribs. Cash or check only.

Small restaurant with nice outside dining tables spaced far enough apart so you converse with people in your party. The food and service was excellent. No credit cards are accepted.
This place was a total surprise — what a great restaurant! The pickles (8.5/10), with anchovies, were amazing. The free bread (9/10), especially the jalapeño cornbread, was incredible.
We ordered the fish and the chicken breast for our main dishes - both were delicious. The plates looked beautiful, the portions were generous, and the flavors were spot on. The chicken breast was especially juicy - I still wonder how they cooked it so well
Excellent brisket! Warm, cozy ambiance.
