California Sushi and Teriyaki

The sushi was great, sushi chef was fantastic; I think hes been there for awhile.
However, the service was terrible. I don't know if they have new ownership but ever since they started to make a lot of changes the service has gone downhill and its disappointing. Our server was rude the entire time, made us feel very rushed.
I love the sushi and have for many years but the service makes me hesitate to come back. Unsure if we will be back.

A shitty place
They left me standing for 30 minutes in front of the door waiting for a seat when the place was empty there were only two people eating, at the end the woman tells me to take a seat I look for a table and I feel she arrives and throws me the menu, I ask her about the all you can eat and she tells me that they don't do that and then why on the internet they say yes?

Just meh. Food used to be a lot better, as did the service. Sushi didn't come with customary wasabi and ginger either.

This has been my first time at a sushi restaurant where the waiter did not know what is nigiri or sake, and that I had to ask for wasabi after 3 sushi plates were on the table.

We stopped by California Sushi for a quick dinner. The dinner was packed. Food came fairly quick. My wife ordered the bento box with beef and I ordered Teriyaki beef plate. The food was ok for the price and we enjoyed it.

Whenever my sister and her guy come to town, we go in for the lunch special. The combo plates have great variety.

I love this place. This is my go to place on the Central Coast. The food is fresh and delicious, whether you order from the menu or ask for a surprise from the chef(s). The staff is fun and provide excellent service.

There is full on sushi, sashimi, or something from the kitchen. I've been many many times and you can't go wrong with whatever you order.

When we arrived, only two tables were occupied. The staff was mediocre, displaying a typical out of touch NPC attitude, as if they were just going through the motions for a paycheck. It took an hour and a half to receive our food for a party of three. To fumble the bag even more with their incompetence, they forgot my niece’s order and struggled to resolve a receipt issue, despite only one other table remaining! The food was bland and lukewarm. As the cherry on this dumpster fire, a staff member hovered over me with the handheld payment scanner, staring me down as I was pressured to tip for overpriced, below subpar food and terrible service.

This restaurant used to be a go-to spot in Santa Maria, but it now feels like they no longer care about their customer base and are a hollow shell of its former self. It seems they’re coasting on a tarnished reputation, surviving only because they’re the most convenient sushi option in the area. 0/10...I’d rather drive to AG for overpriced Japanese food than endure a pathetic excuse for a restaurant. California Sushi, you used to be beautiful. Now you’re just a sad Yelp cautionary tale. What happened?

The quality of the food is not the same. The service is also going downhill. Sushi restaurants used to have that Japanese experience that I looked forward to in which it showed by the presentation of the food and pride they put into their trade. The food at this restaurant looks as if they are just trying to get them out of the restaurant as fast as they can. Absolutely no pride or professionalism. I will not be visiting again. I will not recommend this place to anybody.
