Before I moved out of this town, I considered this place to be the ultimate Japanese food experience. I don't feel that way anymore. Obviously, the menu changed quite a bit since then, and so has the city. But I can't shake this feeling that Ichiban used to be much much better. This place wasn't cheap either. Did the menu shrink a lot? I found myself so confused spending what I did on everything for what I consider to just be "passable".

The rolls are SO good! The people who work there always welcome you with a smile. I like the new openness to the restaurant.

Sushi was alright, do not recommend getting the ramen. They literally used spaghetti instead of ramen noodles and the egg wasn't marinated so had no flavor.

This is now the only Japanese / sushi restaurant we will go to in the area. The services is fantastic, everyone is very nice. We really enjoy the freshness of the food and quality. We also really enjoy the ambiance. It's quiet and comfortable. If you are looking for sushi, this is the place to go.

When your server makes a mistake on an order admit it. I am never going back. It is expensive and to justify it you need great food and service. I did not get it and the owner/manager did not care.

Really liked this place. First time but definitely not the last time. Wanna try their ramen next. Theo servers are super nice. When you walk on the place is like a minka with all the decor.

What a special place. Family run business & what a sweet family. Love the decor. Lovely hostesses. Sushi chef Peter was comfortable to talk with. Everything was beyond delish but especially the Firetruck. Try it, I'm not lying. An explosion of flavor. Will become a regular here.

This place is always a solid choice. I go maybe once every month or two and it's always a delight. I've had most of their bentos and they are tasty and a decent amount of food for the price. They're hot sake ? is an excellent addition to the evening. And they are the restaurant that has been getting me to try sushi again and I am starting to like it as a result. The customer service is good and the place has an excellent atmosphere for a fun night outParking: It's a large parking lot overall, but it is a busy area. While there is typically no issue finding a spot, it may be a ways away from the restaurant

Best sushi in town and it's not even close! I've tried every restaurant in Santa Maria and it's usually sub par fish quality and overpriced but this hit the spot! Great service, server got lost a little towards the end but friendly faces and very fast service! Nigiri combo 8pcs- the menu must be old because we got 11 and last time my wife got the same amount. All the fish was top notch, rice to fish ratio pretty spot on and the flavor just perfect! Quick test is the salmon nigiri, usually it's tough or just fishy but this melts in your mouth! If the salmon is good usually the rest is as well! Rock and roll roll- took this one home but it was just as good! They really take care of the fish and it shows! The pricing is actually great for the quality of fish, and the rolls are as much as anyone else in town selling premium rolls! If you like sushi, come here! Very hopeful that the chefs do an omakase for whatever set price you have because that would be amazing!
