Classic old school restaurant. Excellent ambiance. I had the shrimp cocktail and the prime rib with baked potato. I felt like I should be negotiating with a Hollywood agent or politician in a place like this. Lots of fun.

The Golden Bull is a total Santa Monica gem, stepping inside feels like a time warp in the best way. I first visited about 15 years ago, and on a recent return it was wonderful to find the atmosphere still just as classic and unchanged. It is clearly mainly frequented by a local clientele, which only adds to the authentic neighborhood feel.
The Cosmopolitan cocktails are phenomenal, and the $35 corkage on wine was great value for our evening. This enabled me to enjoy my PlumpJack Merlot with their delicious filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. We also loved the starters, crispy salads with just the right amount of French dressing, and a very fresh shrimp starter.
Service and vibe were spot on from start to finish. Really difficult to find any fault, cannot wait to come back.

This place doesn’t try to reinvent the steakhouse, it just shows you how good it feels when a place gets every detail right. You step inside and there’s this warm, old-school glow, leather booths, dim lights, the low murmur of people settling in for a proper meal. The steaks come out with that confident simplicity, fire, seasoning, nothing extra because nothing extra is needed and the sides hit with the same kind of quiet authority.
The bar has its own gravity too. Cocktails mixed with real intent and poured by people who understand pace and presence. Over time, the crowd blends into the atmosphere. Locals, regulars, couples, all celebrating something that matters. All wrapped in the same golden hum. By the time you walk back out toward Channel Rd, you get that rare feeling that some places don’t need to shout to be great, they just let the experience do the talking.

This a good place for dinner but it turns into an alcohol fueled rocking good time at like 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Go there with a couple friends you'll be glad you did
Everything about the Golden Bull rocks. Great food, friendly staff and a great environment. Bar in the front feels casual for a drink or dinner while the back dining room has nice steakhouse vibes. Kids are ok there too, which helps. 10 out of 10 every time.

The Golden Bull Restaurant & Bar has been serving chophouse classics since 1949, an old-fashioned, wood-paneled space with a patio. Located at 170 West Channel Road, off the Pacific Coast Highway, in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Santa Monica, it offers premium steaks, creative salads and superior service. But I didn't have to scan the menu because the first item was the chef's special, Branzino with ladolemono sauce. In recent years, Branzino has become a very popular entree at fine dining restaurants, a tender and meaty and tasty Mediterranean sea bass. If it's on a menu, I'll probably order it. And the Golden Bull's version is one of the best I've encountered, a whole, de-boned Branzino pan fried in olive oil and finished with a bright Greek ladolemono sauce of lemon, oregano, garlic, salt and black pepper, then garnished with fresh dill, chives, parsley, melted butter and sweet blistered cherry tomatoes. All in all, an irresistibly flavorful Mediterranean-inspired dish. With creamy mashed potatoes and grilled broccoli with Romesco sauce and garlic on the side. Did I forget to mention that I started my meal with a shrimp cocktail with citrus poached shrimp and Old Bay house-made cocktail sauce and a Canyon Caesar salad with little gem lettuce, shaved croutons, parmigiano reggiano, pecorino romano cheese and chile flakes with chicken? For dessert, I chose croissant bread pudding drizzled with caramel sauce and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a bed of crumbled cookies. The Golden Bull is open from 4:30 to midnight on Wednesday, 4:30 to 2 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, 3 to 2 a.m. on Saturday and 3 to midnight on Sunday. Y'all come.

This is a hidden gem in the neighborhood and it's not on the main drag. Free street parking was a bit difficult to find but they do offer valet parking. We only stopped by for drinks at the dark old school bar. Luckily two bar seats were available and we placed our mixed drink order and a draft beer. This was on Father's Day just when they opened at 300pm but the bartender told us that in the evening it gets crazy busy and people start to sing along to whatever music is being played.
Nice location. Bar tenders recognize locals by name. $18 cocktails. Service could ve much better. I had onion rings and a $9.00 beer. The glass was warm instead of frosty. Very noisy with bartenders mixing drinks, and slamming the container on the bar.
