Unfortunately after 33 years the Interactive Cafe has closed (high rent increase). It was a great community coffee shop owned by a Santa Monica couple. It will be missed.

You know those places you go where the people taking your order are raging A-holes, with no knowledge of basic human interaction, and the food you have to choke down because it's so nasty? This is that place. The crusty owners, ancient relics with dust falling off their bodies are miserable people who do their very best to not encourage repeat business. Nasty people!!!!

Already thankful to see open cafe at 6am. Staff was friendly. I had one almond croissant and Oatmilk latte. The coffee somehow taste a little different from what I expected tho. Croissant was good, big and tasty. Washroom was clean.

The negative reviews are right, disgusting place and poor service!!! I found bunch of hair on their forks by register when I told the cashier sue just rolled her eyes, grabbed it and put in trash!! Tiramisu dry and just yucky place overall. The person who reported them to health dept did good for that, I’m too busy to do that on my trip. These are clearly overworked and underpaid you can tell with the attitude sadly.

I am very sad to write a review like this. I reported to LA county Public Health department today and filed a complaint about this cafe. Please note I am a local and small business supporter and no intention to harm nor discourage their business, but this need to be reported and let other customer know to be cautions for their health.It was my very first time I stopped by this cafe on Friday evening. My friend wanted to use a bathroom (a customer only) so I purchased a slice of a blueberry pie and a lemon cake for ToGo.After I came home about 30 min andI ate a pie, I found a green colored mold in a crust, and after I closely examined, I found a couple “alive” white small maggot inside of a pie. I noticed these sadly after I had a couple bites.I immediately went to bathroom and vomited everything from my stomach. Horrible experience. No restaurant or cafe should sell nor serve a rotten food to a customer.If an owner saw this review, please take actions immediately.I called a cafe next morning after an incident but a phone number is inactive and could not talk nor left a message.(I took a photo of a pie and maggot as an evidence but not to share here, nobody should see this)

I was happy with what i got. I didnt go in looking for the best culinary experience. I wanted a cheap and hearty breakfast and i wasn't disappointed. I got the veggie breakfast burrito and it came with a side of fruit salad. It was good, cheap and filled me up. Dont go in there thinking you will get the best food, go there if you want to have a decent meal in Santa Monica without paying Santa Monica prices
