The food was just okay and not what I remembered from my time living in Los Angeles, years ago. I had the most mediocre Cobb Salad of my life last weekend. The complimentary scones were wonderful and my dining partner's huevos rancheros got decent reviews. Service was attentive and pro. Ambiance was spectacular. But the food...it just did not connect like the Robertson Blvd location, sorry to report. The Ivy At The Shore felt like it was resting on laurels and has decided it's more an Instagram and status destination, rather than a place to get a delicious meal.
Quality of food has deteriorated dramatically. Wilted arugula, bone dry crab cakes, over fried squash blossoms. Service frenetic yet NOT attentive. Charged for one drink not served. $28/cocktail.
For those with allergy concerns and specifically gluten/celiac, I would not consider this location. They do offer an alternative menu for allergies but once you factor in any cross contamination you are really left with very few options. The staff also don't instill confidence with their responses when you pose any questions related to allergies.
The restaurant is beautiful and the patio is great for people watching. The food is fabulous, however, drinks were expensive! My dbl shot Vodka was $41!! Service was very slow, to get our first drink was almost 1/2 hr.
Not once did we ever feel rushed. That is such a unique thing in California, much less Los Angeles. We really appreciated that aspect. It made everything else that much better since we were able to relax and enjoy our meal with out of town company. Can't wait to visit again! I'll go back just for this reason alone. Food was outstanding and service was excellent. Highly recommend.
Really used to love this restaurant last two times service and food had been terrible The food def not there at all. Greasy potatoes oils all over plate and all dishes were not good we will not be returning .unfortunately...
Fabulous old-school lunch spot - a Santa Monica Institution! We sat on the terrace - great people watching, light and airy. Service was outstanding - as was the food and cocktails. Will definitely come back!
There was a group of 4 women dining at the time of our reservation and talking and laughing at the top of their lungs, it was rude and disrespectful and someone should've said something to them in a tactful way
Our device was absolutely wonderful (I wish I could remember names, but really outstanding folks), and we loved the atmosphere. The food, unfortunately, was just fair. The crab cakes were a little overcooked and contained too much breading for the cost. The mini pizza did not seem like it was made in house.
Beautiful location! The dishes were ok. The service was good, but cannot beat the spot. Would come again.

Wonderful dining experience. The food was absolutely delightful and the service was excellent. We will return.
Our dinner at Ivy by the Shore could not have been more exceptional. Between the four of us, we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious softshell crabs, swordfish, steak, and branzino. The mashed potatoes were outstanding, as was the Patz and Hall Pinot Noir. The service was impeccable--as always. I am very happy to have chosen The Ivy to celebrate my friend's birthday. She was delighted in every way.
I brought some clients here for dinner and it could not have gone better! Thank you for having us and we'll be sure to come back in the future.
Have been going there for over 30 years... nothing has changed. Still fabulous food service and ambience
Our experience was full of contrasts. The quality of the food and service were exceptional, but we felt “expressed” through the meal. One of the waitbacks collected a plate then hovered near the table as a family member took their last forkful and then whisked it away. The space is beautiful, yet the entire experience gave a touristy vibe.
