Capt. Eddie at the helm of this Bread shop of Kindness!!! Thank you for your suggestions and genuine consideration. Well worth the drive from Pasadena to enjoy clean air, a stroll on Ocean, and see more in this superlatively walkable neck of the woods. Thank you. I will be back

The bread is too expensive and inconsistent in regard to texture and taste. Sometimes the bread seems stale, other times it’s passable, and on occassion pretty good. The bread was once 10 dollars for a sourdough loaf which is barely fair, since it costs maybe 15 cents worth of flour salt and water to prepare. Now the same sourdough loaf is at 13. I used to really enjoy this place before the prices rose and the quality didn’t.

Every time I serve someone a slice of Jyan Issac's Seeded Sourdough, they have invariably commented about the amazing combination of seeds. It's a truly magic formula, and toasts beautifully. It is my favorite bread in the city. Occasionally, I also get their indulgently wonderful croissant loaf too! I do wish they were still able to slice the loaves on the spot to save me the hassle. But, I understand that it has something to do with city permits.

I have been wanting to try this spot for quite some time because I have only heard great things about their bagel and bakery options. This little stretch of restaurants can get very busy, especially on weekends, so parking can be a bit of a challenge during the busy times. We were able to find a free spot in neighborhood behind the restaurant about a half block away so we got lucky, but also came early. The line here can get long sometimes, but it moves fast and I did not have to wait very long at all for my order. The menu is quite small, but it has a lot of great options on it and what really sets this place apart is just their overall bagel taste and quality; they are top-notch. They also have a lot of great bakery options from sweet to savory. Inside is small so the best place to sit will be outdoors right in front or just get it to go.
For our first visit we chose the Gravlax Works on an Everything Bagel and a Bacon, Egg, & Cheese on a Plain Bagel. The Gravlax was fantastic. It’s basically a lox bagel but elevated. The difference between the works and plain is the works has tomato and dill. The smoked salmon was really delicate and overall it was just one of the better ones that I’ve had in quite some time. The BEC was also very good however, I am not a fan of thick cut bacon and would much prefer crispy bacon instead so that is my only criticism it.
Overall, we had a great experience and I’m already eager to come back again soon to try more items. I would recommend to anyone in the area and would say it is worth driving out of your way to go here.

Ordered $50 worth of loose bagels from them. My boyfriend was eating Laylas bagels in front of me while we waited for the bagels from Jyan and a really rude staff member came out to tell us to leave (mind you, he was standing up on the very public sidewalk). Next time we’ll just skip Jyan and get all Laylas bagels :)
I have been coming here to buy sourdough bread for several years and it has been consistently good, however this last weekend I purchased a loaf only to discover when I got home that it was not fresh. Not acceptable when you are paying $13 for a loaf. I will be looking for an alternative bakery.
While they serve food here all day, I’ve only ever come in for breakfast and have to say it’s an underrated pastry/bagel/brunch spot! Their pastrami and cheese croissant, Swedish cinnamon bun, and bagels are delicious. They make their pastries look like art! While we haven’t gotten their pizza yet, we’ve seen others order it on our way out from brunch and it always smells amazing.
Their seating in the back is great, one of my favorite outdoor patios on the west side for sure.

Ordered the cucumber on plain bagel. Bagel is seeded (fine with me but not disclosed) and one of the worst bagels I’ve ever had. It was dry, flat and stale. Skimpy with the cream cheese yet somehow soggy. Plus toppings were over salted. Very disappointed!

Good bagels, ran HORRIBLY. We came here with virtually no line. 30 minutes+ to make 3 bagels. Not a crowded day at all. Not worth it the wait, they can’t figure out logistics / streamline process. Bagels should take 10mins MAX. Layla, next door with much longer line, runs WAY more efficiently

I heard good things about this place, but I was disappointed by the quality. Maybe the problem is that we ordered 15 minutes a head of time. When we picked it up in the pick up time frame, it was very cold. We didn’t finish our food.
