Kava Hana Bar is such a relaxing spot in Santa Monica! I ordered the ube coconut and pumpkin spice lattes — both were so smooth, creamy, and gave me that calm, mellow vibe. I also tried the melon shaved ice with mochi inside, which was a total treat — light, not too sweet, and super refreshing. The red bean buns were delicious and went perfectly with the drinks. Everything felt intentional and relaxing, and the atmosphere made it such a great place to hang out and unwind.

I met Hana on Tik Tok about 3 years ago when she was selling Kava at a rave in LA. It was fun to listen to her talk about her knowledge of it and I shared my past very limited experience with it. But it was enough to entice me to want to give it a shot again. I love kava more now. And finally after a 5 year hiatus of staying in San Diego I made the trek back up to LA recently and Kava Hana was on my list. Had a great time! It was exactly how I thought it would be. The staff was great. The kava drinks were super yummy! The lowkey vibe was very pleasant. Will definitely be back!

We recently visited this kava bar as part of our nationwide tour of kava lounges, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing experiences we’ve had so far. The kava itself was poorly prepared — more like bitter sludge than a proper prep. It was unmixed, with a large amount of powder collecting in the bottom of the cup, making it the most unpleasant we’ve had to drink.
On top of that, cleanliness was a concern. We saw a black rat of some type right outside the open back door leading to the bar, which was unsettling. Service also left a lot to be desired. Despite approaching the staff and owner with kindness, the hospitality was not reciprocated, and staff made several new friends uncomfortable.
To put it simply: service was a 1 out of 10, the kava barely a 1. Out of the many kava bars we’ve visited across the country, this one ranks at the very bottom — and that’s something we truly wish weren’t the case, because we wanted to like this place. It seems tbe owner is dealing with some obvious mental health needs. And we wish her the best, But as far as our experience tonight, a one star is extremely generous.

One of my favorite treats! Come for the Kave, cute and happy staff, but stay for the board games and open Mic on Weds! Dog friendly.

Kava Hana has quickly become one of my favorite spots to unwind, just a few blocks from the beach, it feels like a little Hawaiian-inspired getaway. I tried their kava nectar for the first time here, and I was surprised at how smooth it was; the earthy flavor with that little tongue-tingling sensation was unique but really enjoyable. I felt calm, clear, and social without any of the heaviness you’d get from alcohol. My go-to now is the Zenergy Nectar, which pairs coffee or matcha with kava, such a perfect mix of focus and relaxation. The staff is super friendly and took the time to explain what kava is all about, which made me feel comfortable trying something new. I also grabbed some buns and dessert, which paired great with the drinks. It is a little pricier than a regular café, but the atmosphere, quality, and the way I felt afterward make it so worth it. This place honestly feels like a community, and I can’t wait to come back.
