Classic Ice Cream Counter!
Egg creams, phosphates, rickeys, ice cream by the scoop, sundaes, and banana splits are all here.
Tucked in the corner of the Santa Monica Pier Carousel, it's a veritable time machine that took me back to my first childhood visit to a real drugstore ice cream counter in 1956, complete with the rotating bar seats for a kid to swing on to annoy his parents!
I had my favorite: a classic hot fudge sundae complete with two healthy scoops of scrumptious vanilla ice cream surrounded by rich, flavorful genuine hot fudge, topped with crunchy chopped nuts and buried under mounds of real whipped cream.
The ice cream is the real deal - Fosselman's Ice Cream - which is a local legend and treasure. It started in Iowa in 1919, and moved to LA in 1937, and is now operated by the 3rd generation of the Fosselman family. The ice cream is still made from real California fresh milk and is rBST-free.
After a long, hot (90 degree) day of rides and games on the Pier, and a last few rides on the Carousel, the Soda Jerks counter really hit the spot for my wife and I and our grandkids!
As the sign over the counter says:
Life is Uncertain, so ...
EAT DESSERT FIRST!
Ice cream was fine, nothing out of ordinary. Float was nicer
Tried to order.today but the 1 employee was too busy talking. to her friend to bother asking if we wanted to order. Stood inside, stood outside at every window. Guess you don't really want to sell anything.
Wasn't open on Monday at 11am, no soft serve & awful customer service too.
Ordered a graveyard shake or somthing like that. It said it had 2 types of coffee ice cream but i not a chocolate shake
great ice cream, but as the name implies, their sodas are something special. they have phosphates too, and are usually happy to customize your soda with their syrups, ice creams, etc- which are very sweet- some might want to ask for half syrup if adding it. I personally like a cherry coke with whipped cream, and their root beer floats taste downright vintage. (in the good way- they use dad's, so it's less vanilla, and more licorice and spice flavor)
the guy working today with blondish hair was absolutely incredible!!! all alone and served soooo many people all on his own absolutely no one else to help him. i would say this guy straight up deserves a raise, he was so kind, helpful, and patient. literally a long line and people inside and out. i am thoroughly impressed.
Horrible service!!! Guy just told us they were closed even tho its 3pm and they close at 7pm. Everything was open I clouding ice cream bins and computers. Rudest person on the pier. Not sure why this business is on the pier! Advise... keeping going. There will be better plac3s and services to give your money to.
Just went in and no one was available! Guy with big hair came in and rudely told us they were closed those the internet says open till 7pm AND EVERYTHING is up and running. If this place just doesnt want business they can just post a sign saying so. So disappointing this place is on the pier ruining good times and memories!
Nice little spot on the Santa Monica Pier for a soda or ice cream! My toddler got the kids cone for $4 and the Salted Caramel flavor was pretty dang good.

I used to work here back in 2016 so I may be biased, but this is the classic spot on the pier that remains nostalgic for lots of people.
Great milkshakes, great ice-cream and cute seating if you want to catch a break. Can get super busy and at times the workers can get overwhelmed at times but patience is a virtue. The inside can get noisy with the carousel ride but they have outside seats too
Kids scoop is the perfect size for most believe it or not, good budget option too

Such a cute place! There was only one employee working, but he was efficient, had great customer service, and the atmosphere was super cute! Fun experience 😊

With all the great options around the pier I'd put this lower on my list. The portions are alright but the service wasn't good and I had been charged extra for an item I didn't receive.

ice cream was not too pricy and the atmosphere of the carousel was 10/10 although there was a mysterious cone shape in my ice cream…
