As a small business owner, I look for certain things in employees, and chief among them are 1. Do they actually care or are they just here to collect a paycheck? And 2. Do they actually improve the overall product we're selling?
I mention this because this is the lens through which I, a manager, see the world, and it's why Terrell stands out at Sweet Rose Creamery.
Let's talk about point #2 first. Sweet Rose is, ostensibly, a business that sells ice cream. It's good ice cream. Great, even. But it's in a crowded space. Sweet Rose is able to stand out in a few ways: 1. It's got a great location — it's pleasant, it's near a bunch of people with disposable income, and it's close to other businesses that might bring others to Brendwood Country Mart in the first place. Aside from that, the store is cute inside, the brand's social media account is decent, and there's an emphasis on high-quality ingredients.
Still, I think it's safe to say that Sweet Rose knows that the key to success involves serving much more than just a frozen delicacy in a cone (or cup): Sweet Rose has to serve joy. And a key ingredient to that product — one arguably as important as the ice cream itself — is service.
And that's where Terrell stands point. He greets my partner and me with a huge smile (sometimes a dap), he talks about the latest movies he's watched (often with HOT TAKES), he asks us about our lives, and he brings us a genuine joy that a delicious scoop of ice cream never could. My partner and I bought a Sweet Rose membership, and we use it quite often, but we literally time our trips to nights we know Terrell is working.
We're paying for joy, and it's the coupling of people like Terrell and delicious, high-quality ice cream that make Sweet Rose a 1 of 1 establishment. It's a complex world out there, with sadness and grief coming at us from every direction, especially via the internet/social media. To be able to find 20 minutes of true joy each night thanks to a great man and a scoop of ice cream is something people gladly pay for. Thank you, Terrell!
Now to point #1, finally: Terrell actually gives a [bleep] about his job. He talks to me about the business — ideas he has, things he'd like to implement, things he's noticed among customers. In my eyes as a manager, he seems like a dream employee — one who actually wants to see the business thrive.
What's more, he's just got great skills; I recall visiting Sweet Rose one night shortly after some kind of promotion, and the line was out the door. Terrell was, for some reason, solo that night, but he remained cool as a cucumber while grinding it out to get everyone the ice cream — and the service — they were there for. What's more, Terrell always offers great ideas for ice cream pairings. Sometimes, he just asks "Do you want to trust me on something?" And after I reply with an affirmative, he serves up an absolute BOMB combination of flavors.
Terrell's skillset is incredibly rare, and it's his hard work, passion/interest in his job, and especially his kindness/joy/excellent social skills that combine to create a truly unique experience every time my partner and I walk through those doors.
5/5 stars. Thank you, Sweet Rose! Thank you, Terrell!

The brownie fudge is just brownie bits, not an actual brownie. It’s cost me $17 for a small cup of ice cream w very little brownie.

Yummy flavors and a nice location with outdoor seating. Although, we had a super odd costumer service experience. Something about the flow/organization and the attitudes of the scoopers and the manager is little off but the costumers remained kind and patient regardless.

Unfortunately our experience was ruined by the unprofessionalism displayed by the two members of staff who served us today. There was clearly a long line of people waiting but rather than serve anyone, you could clearly hear the female member staff complaining to the man about her shift times and duties etc, and they both completely ignored about a dozen customers waiting for them in line. They were so busy talking amongst themselves when serving us that they didn't even realise I paid and tried to stop me from leaving before I told them to check and confirm that I've already paid - is it that hard to just focus on your customers instead of complaining about how busy it gets amongst yourselves?

I've been here many times, and it's still a great fresh ice cream product, but recently the prices have jumped out of the building and into the stratosphere - errr maybe closer to Topanga State Park. A one scoop cone is roughly $10.

As a big fan of quality ice cream, gelato, etc. This Ice Cream Creamery is one of the better ones, but our flavors (Campfire Sundae) today were a bit too intense for our favorites list.We are grateful for the free sundae promotion through the Blackbird app (available through Sunday 5.12.24), which is why we drove about 20 minutes and took time to check it out. The staff was kind and gave me grace for a few minutes due to wrong turns getting there. It had been a while, maybe years since the last time I've tried a Sweet Rose out. I usually prefer gelato: Bacio de Latte, Anita's, Capri or for ice cream Wanderlust or even Salt & Straw or Rori's.ProsRegular, traditional marshmallows (used to be made with the mallow plant hundred + years ago). Now, there could be vegan or housemade options, but the ones used were soft, fresh and classic. (*Update, they are made in house!)I liked the magic shell, hard chocolate topping, my Best Friend wasn't a fan (he's more particular about chocolate though). Didn't seem housemate like at Yoga-urt, but still enjoyable.Ice cream is a good consistency and creaminess.Sundae options include toppings!!! Love That!Ready to go freezer, pints, bars, sandwiches, chocolate covered bananas and even some ice cream cake choices.Parking lot or metered street parking was decent on an earlier Friday afternoon/early evening.ConsI didn't sample other flavors today, like I usually would and the view of flavors in the freezer is hard to see to observe or be inspired by other choices, but they do have the classic options.Store layout is incredibly awkward. This family totally cut us off without any interaction or acknowledgement and the staff didn't notice to correct them. The young girl did say hi and was sweet to me, but not a great parenting example (I think it's the area of town). Just not the best energy flow for those more sensitive to awkwardly designed layouts. Not much the store could do about this. Although better welcoming and acknowledgement could help. The campfire flavor could be great if you enjoy a more overwhelming and intense flavor. I loved the toasted marshmallows and hard chocolate shell topping even if not made in house (I could tell, but I didn't ask the brand they use). The salted caramel flavor was very strong, too much for my liking, but I'm more particular when it comes to a salted caramel flavor and most places (including Salt & Straw) make it too intense. Both of us were not a fan of the Graham Cracker. I don't know if it's how they prepared it or the brand or what, but it felt too rich or again, intense. I think with a softer, honey cinnamon Graham Cracker and Madagascar Vanilla (bean, not the syrup please) this combo could be amazing. For me, I couldn't finish it all in one sitting, which is usually rare for me. Taste can be subjective, but if you prefer traditional flavors and a softer, creamier palate with a hint of texture and complementary flavors, ask if they can simplify the flavors by substituting the vanilla or a sweet cream option. It could help the other toppings blend together well.Ingredients could be upscaled more. It is still a decent, good quality, but not the highest level out there (note Malibu Farms or Mother Moo Creamery if you're up for the drive).Overall, not the best or worst experience and again I'm very grateful to be gifted the Sundae via their current promotion. Worth checking out another flavor combo this weekend. Maybe the Grasshopper (Mint) could be a better choice for me.Update: 5.12.24 Thank you Casey for honoring the promotion, despite a 20 minute wait in line. Tried the Grasshopper Sundae (substituted marshmallows, made in house). The whipped cream definitely uses real cream as it has that kind of stick to your mouth texture of real cream...a bit softer & sweeter whipped vs fluffy would be nice, but that's being super picky. Glad it's not fake or generic canned whipped cream. The mint flavor is real, but if they used fresh mint leaves, it is very well bl

Best ice cream on the west side!! Terrell is the best! Super friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Partly because we didn't speak the same language, but it was also difficult to understand how to order and the details of the products.
