Disappointed that during Restaurant week in LA, the special “Dine LA” prices were not actually discounted from the everyday prices.

We went there on Christmas Day because it was one of the few places open. We ordered the cheeseburger and the American breakfast, and honestly, it was a big disappointment. The potatoes were badly overcooked and dry, and the burger was served without even ketchup on the side, which felt careless. Given the quality of the food, the experience was poor, and the meal was simply not enjoyable. I wouldn’t recommend it unless there are major improvements in the kitchen.

I ordered the hanger steak and asked about the portion size before ordering. I was told it starts at 8 ounces and shrinks to about 6 ounces when cooked. What arrived was, at best, around 3 ounces of meat, which was disappointing given the price.

I swapped the regular potato (listed at $8) for a sweet potato (listed at $9 on the menu), so a $1 difference. However, I was charged $4 for the substitution, even though no upcharge amount is listed on the menu. Adding avocado was another $4. By the end, the hanger steak with sweet potatoes came out to around $38.

The food itself tasted incredible, and the service was genuinely good. Unfortunately, the portion size combined with the unexpected upcharges made the overall value feel way off. I left feeling surprised by how much I paid for how little food I received.

Great location, great ambiance, friendly and attentive staff. Food was meh. The food was not that good. For the price you are paying and the reviews, you expect to get a more universal taste appeal for the food. It seemed like a very niche flavor palete. For example, the Hibiscus Agua Fresca drink we ordered for our kids was seasoned with All Spice. My son tasted it and immediately asked why it tastes like lamb. They don't list that seasoning on the menu, we would not have ordered that drink if it was listed. The staff was very understanding and made it all right by bringing the kids the strawberry drink and allowing them to taste a small amount before ordering it. The Lobster roll was not worth $34 and left a lot to be desired. The Ceasar Salad also had some odd/interesting flavorings to it. The Hanger Steak was pretty decent but it looked to be about a 3 ounce portion for $42. An average size man with an average size appetite would still be hungry for more. The steak came with crispy potatoes that also were seasoned in a spicy and interesting way. The french fries were pretty good. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned that he commented was fantastic. We loved the location, we loved the service, and we loved the ambiance!

Excellent experience. Had fish and chips, poke bowl and burger. All were excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive. Prices were reasonable.

Location is great, next to the public parking and the pier, and the environment is really nice. Food is hit and miss, we had to bounce back a fish and chips (it was not edible) and fish tacos gave one member of the party stomach issues.

Stopped in on a rainy Saturday night with some buddies and had an awesome experience. The interior looks fantastic, the food was solid, and the service really stood out. Ed and Sai were incredibly friendly and attentive. We had a great night and can’t wait to come back.

Really cool looking place, happy hour requires you to sit at the bar, portions for apps small, service was brutal.

I previously reviewed The Surfing Fox as a spot for healthy, tasty dining with good service. Returned today and experienced the complete opposite. Such a shame. To survive in the competitive Santa Monica market they will need to be a lot more consistent. I shall not be back.

They decided to cancel our reservation at the last minute despite asking us to confirm it the day before. We drove all the way out from Pasadena and then couldn’t find another place after that. It was really disrespectful and the manager just kept making excuses.

Did not know this pace existed until a friend found it for after a movie. Fresh interior space, pleasant service and we were pleasantly surprised with the level of quality of the food. Expected just a serviceable simple place but they reached and grabbed a higher bar. Halibut special was delicious and had interesting seasoning. Corn focaccia started was a treat. Roast chicken with an herbed jasmine rice was crisp and moist. Very intriguing cocktail selection. All in all a win and not break the bank. Kept on eyeing the. Others rut were flying by to other tables. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Would give it 4-1/2 stars if that was available. Almost no one gets a 5.
One note. Most of the four tops are oval shaped tables which don’t really work comfortably. They look nice but form folks function.

Great coffee, but the scrambled eggs and turkey sausage ordered for brunch was all cold. Disappointing.

Tourist trap -- overpriced for mediocre food. We paid a lot for pretty basic dishes-- my kale salad was overdressed, the Korean Mac n cheese was supposed to have gochujang but I couldn't taste any spice. Fish n chips were fine, hangar steak was pretty good. Service was fine.
