Worst experience ever in America and also in santa monica will never suggest to go food quantity less
High price according to quality rice said basmati but i doubt never going again plus charging extra for 5 people never seen anywhere
More of a Indian cuisine inspired but imo deserves a better rating than what it has here. Very nice place and not too expensive
My husband and I loved the food here. We had the dal bukhara, aaloo puri, and dahi puri as an appetizer. All delicious with subtle, balanced spicing with some heat. Portions were reasonable and 2 very large puris were more than plenty and we ended up with leftovers if poori and aaloo we happily took home. Service was friendly and good. Decorations were lacking but who cares when the food is this good? Simply superb.
We are here at 9:34 but they said we are closed. On google map they post they closed at 10:00pm. Please change your time on google map
Surprised by the low average rating for this restaurant- the ambience, food and service were excellent.
I rarely leave reviews, it’s either when it’s 5 star or 1 star but this experience warrants one. I visited this restaurant with family with high expectations, only to be met with overpriced dishes, shockingly small portions, and service that left much to be desired.
Let’s start with the food: while somewhat flavorful, the quantity was almost laughable for the price. 3 pieces of paneer for $17, a small 12 oz coke for $6, even smaller Mango Lassi for $7 4 small puri of Dani puri for $12, portions were too small period. Straight robbery. I’ve never left an Indian restaurant unfulfilled and unsatisfied, this one is the first. Usually Indian restaurants offer rice with the dish, here you’re left to just eat the dish alone after you finish roti. Charging premium rates is one thing, delivering value is another. I understand rent and overhead are increasing, especially in Santa Monica, but that doesn’t justify cutting corners on portion size, quality, or service.
Service was slow, inattentive, and careless. Orders were taken incorrectly, and it felt like no one really cared to correct the mistakes. When I corrected and ordered what wasn’t delivered, it just added to the wait times. When a restaurant starts prioritizing cost-cutting over customer experience, it shows, and not in a good way.
Running a business in today’s climate is tough, but if the solution is to offer less while charging more, customers won’t stick around for long. There are too many great options out there that understand how to balance quality, service, and value, this just wasn’t one of them.
Worst food I have ever had. We all the veg options but the taste of the food was bad. Never had this type of taste before. Would not recommend.

The idli fries were amazing. The chicken biryani was very good. The vada pao was made in fusion style with caramelised onions. We liked it. The chicken malai tikka was a little dry and lacked spices and could have been better. The service was great!

Tumbi restaurant falls short of expectations. The service was slow and inattentive, leading to long waits and no water refills throughout the meal. The portion sizes were disappointingly mismatched in a plate, and the food itself was basic and lacked flavor—far from justifying the high-end prices. Overall, Tumbi offers poor value for money with subpar food and lackluster service. Would not recommend.

I wish I can give 0 star. Taste less food and staff doesn’t understand simple word.

Do yourself a favor, completely skip this one.
Filter the reviews based on lowest and read through. All of those reviews are bang on correct. I made the mistake of giving benefit of doubt, and oh boy I was so wrong. Don’t be me - it’s just with your one penny.

Love this restaurant! Their service is amazing and so kind. The Paper Dosa is brilliant, presented as a huge crispy tube of deliciousness with yummy sauces and chutneys to dip it in. There is nothing like it, go experience their Paper Dosa. I have ordered it while two different cooks are working and both times it was fantastic.
Everything I have ordered is delicious here and it is right by the beach and the Santa Monica Pier. You can sit outside with a view of the water and walk down to the beach afterwards. And inside is a nice cozy bar and seating area. It is a great place to people watch if you sit outside, I feel like I am in the heart of a city at the same time as right by the beach.

Pretty good Indian restaurant with both South and North Indian options near santa monica pier. We had pani puri, gobi 65 and idli fries for appetizers and they were all great. For the main course paper dosa, masala dosa, channa batura and sides of poori were good. The aloo gobi was a little bland and the paratha was different.
