We love this restaurant and are very sad to see it closing within a few days. One of our favorites and will be missed.

It's always a pleasure to eat at Walter Hansel Wine Bistro. Food is excellent as usual, no matter what you order. he service is very friendly and professional. It makes me sad that this place is closing for good.

Excellent food, service and estate wine. Memorable meal and experience. We live in NJ and each time we visit Sonoma County we make it a point to make a reservation. Unfortunately the restaurant is closing for good so our experience was bittersweet as we really will miss this gem of a one of a kind experience but mostly we feel for the staff who although provided top notch service and attentiveness are obviously sad and concerned about their loss.

Exceptional example of the bygone Roadhouse Diners that were a part of the early California motoring landscape. Absolutely tragic that they announced closure to be effective August 24th.

I love everything about Walter Hansel Bistro. And our waitress, Denise, is always fabulous and takes very good care of me and my guests. The food is cooked to perfection. I usually go in when they have the lamb special. And duck. They are one of the few places that know how to cook duck. Can't wait to see what specials they have coming up next. I highly recommend this place for any occasion. Between the mouthwatering food, the beautiful ambiance, and the enchanting staff, you just can't go wrong. I can't wait for my next visit!! Really lovely original plates of food, very difficult to choose what to have. My pasta main was beautifully presented and cooked, and my husband's rib eye steak was super tender. The scallops were amazing and my peach and raspberry crumble super fresh. The staff were very attentive- couldn't fault our evening. If we lived locally this would become a regular place for us to eat.

This is a rural neighborhood restaurant, you are treated with kindness from the moment you step inside to your last moment and if your a neighbor and have mentioned it in passing, they totally recognize you. The staff is familiar with all the dishes and what wines to recommend with each dish. The food is out of the park great, well presented and care taken, to every dish that comes from the kitchen. There hasn't been a meal we had that didn't 100% please us and the Specials are always a treat!

A hidden gem! Had been wanted to try this restaurant and went for my husband's birthday. The food was DELICIOUS, subtle flavors blending beautifully, with many items from the restaurant's garden. A cremy zucchini amusee bouche to start was fabulous - peppery and slightly spicy. Wonderful cream corn soup and an aguachile tuna dish to start, beef tenderloin and Alaskan halibut were our entrees. Super. Quaint corner building in the midst of vineyards, lovely views. Highly recommend, we will be back, with friends!!

We always enjoy our meals here. The service is casual but excellent and the wines are good and reasonably priced. We don't get to eat at fine dining restaurants very often so we appreciate knowing we will have a good experience and decent value.

I was on my way out to Guerneville when I spotted a group of Albanian Sheep Herders along with their mascot, and an interpreter doing some sort of ritual dance right outside of the Walter Hansel Bistro.
Saying it was out of place would be putting it mildly, each man had a lit candle that they quickly passed under their beard while doing that Russian dance where they kick out their feet while in a sitting position all the while chanting some strange sounds of sheep being kicked around. The hats they wore were like Abe Lincoln's stove pipe hat only thick black fleece...It was something all right, but not as all right as the Walter Hansel Bistro porterhouse chop I had....That was Amazing! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆

Always excellent food. I've had the halibut many times. Okay, admittedly, I always get the halibut. I have tried my husband's gnocchi. It's seriously the best gnocchi on the planet. My kids have gotten ossi bucco, steak, scallops, and more. The appetizers are great too. The salads are great, the escargot is phenomenal. Oh, they always recognize us and are so welcoming and kind.
