If you love the wines of Stephen Hansel, and I really do, you should make a trip to the bistro and order the duck and the halibut and pair it with the cuvée Alyce Pinot and Chardonnay. You will enjoy your evening and will further appreciate the beauty of Walter Hansel wines

Excellent food and service! We had the Liberty duck breast with pea shoot risotto! Incredible! The wine list is very extensive with some very fine appellations. Highly recommend the escargot.

As always, the food, this time Halibut, was excellent. The service was spot on. The tomatoe bisque apéritif was a great way to start the meal. Thank you for another perfect dinner.

What a gem! I can't say enough about this place. The food is outstanding. Has a very French bistro feel. The staff is super nice and attentive. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Service was amazing. Attentive but not hovering.. food was deliciious, we had the Halibut and the stuffed pork chop. Both were cooked perfectly. The wine, a namesake Pinot Noir, was just right. Definitely a return trip warranted!

Loved Walter Hansel. The food and service is great. I also liked the wine which they make. If it wasn't so pricey I would go there way more often. Definitely a nice experience!

The yummiest food. The chef cooked everything perfectly, even gave us a sampling of something whipped up in the kitchen. We will go back and are excited about the menu change every month. The ambience is attractive bistro-which we loved. We're going back!!

Walter Hansel's Bistro continues to offer some of the best food in Santa Rosa. They offer favorites such as halibut and steak frites, while reinventing the menu often to add new menu choices that always pleases the palate, such as mushroom, mole, dumplings. The Hansel wines are perfect pairings for any meal choice; although, they offer some stunning wines from local and European producers.

The restaurant has been innovating with the introduction of Happy Hours (great) and the Tostada of the Week (which also appears as a happy hour option). The latest innovation: the Wellington of the Week, which is basically something tasty enclosed in puff pastry. We went specifically to try the Beef Wellington, and we were not disappointed. 7 oz of filet mignon done medium rate with some (duck? I don't remember) pate inside a lovely pastry shell. The accompanying vegetables were a perfect complement. Everything on the menu here is great. I could be quite happy with bread & butter, a Caesar salad, and a glass of wine the Estate Pinot to wash it down. But.... Tonight we started with glasses of Domaine Carneros sparkler, split a half-order of the Prawns Gratin and a Tostada of the Week (Scallop Crudo), then the Soup of the day for her (Butternut Squash) and a Caesar for me. Somewhere in there was a tasty amuse bouche of corn coup with za'atar on top). The aforementioned Wellington, one for each of us, with a bottle of the aforementioned wine, and finally, gelato for dessert (Pistachio for her, Tahitian Vanilla for me). As always, quite pleased with our meal.

We were celebrating a friend's birthday. We started with escargot and Southern Fried Snapper as appetizers, Both were excellent. Two people had the Halibut, one the burger and one had mushroom dumpling special with a mole sauce, All the food items were delicious. We shared a bottle of Walter Hansel Sauvignon Blanc which is a really fine wine and a bottle of Walter Hansel Cahill Lane Chardonnay, also very good. For dessert we had Maple Pecan gelato, profiteroles with pistachio gelato and apple crisp. Our server Mandy was attentive and made some food recommendations which we tried. A very pleasant evening.

As always, superb service and delicious food. We ordered chicken cordon bleu and halibut. They were both perfectly prepared. Split prawns au gratin as app to share. Also wonderful. This restaurant transforms a routine Saturday night out into a special occasion. Thanks to all.

Such a great little place for a delicious dinner. We love coming to Walter Hansel Bistro. The restaurant is quaint, the service is always spot on and our dinner was simply fresh and delicious! Will always return for both casual dinners and special occasions.

Food and service both very good. Had Walter Hansel wine for first time. The Sauvignon Blanc was quite good. Wellington of the Week was veal. Veal overwhelmed by the other ingredients. Not a good idea. Noise was moderate. Only exception was the server (Mandy) when taking orders. She is overly loud and audible throughout the small space. However, in offset, she is also quite attentive, professional and accommodating. The space is dated, walls in off-white and could use a change to a warmer color. Overall, a good experience and would go again.
