Beautiful and intimate place. Thank you very much Paul. Very informative explanation in the wine making processing. Loved it! I suggested grabbing a sandwich where Paul recommends and sample his delectable wine.
Great wine and an awesome place to get an up close and personal with the wine making process. On our first visit, Paul gave is a great tour of the winery and his wine making process, followed by a great tasting of his current wines. Paul has a tremendous knowledge and an obvious passion for wine making that really shows the minute you meet him. Highly recommend this intimate winery experience.
Wonderful experience today at Walnut Tree Ranch touring the winery and doing wine tasting with Paul. His passion, knowledge, and kindness are evident and the wines were delicious. Lovely atmosphere, exceptional wines, and a delightful experience—highly recommend!!
I am so glad I chose this winery for a weekend getaway with my partner, who is very particular about wine! We are both science nerds so we loved how much Paul shared about the winemaking process, and we could tell he really knew what he was doing. His wines are fantastic, each one so unique, even his first ever vintage was nice. We bought six bottles and will likely be returning with friends in the future.
My favorite vinyard! I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Paul is wonderful and the location is beautiful!
This is a unique experience unlike visiting any other winery in Napa, Sonoma, Central California or Temecula valley. In those, you may be part of a crowd passed between employees and processed like their products - homogeneously. At Walnut Tree Ranch Vineyard and Winery, you are getting a private tour with the owner and operator Paul, who patiently shows and explains the beautiful way he has devised to handle the grapes they have grown here with care and attention to the details needed to make the best wine possible. It is clearly a labor of love and he has put heart and soul into creating this place of tranquility and beauty while also producing great wines. My wife and I learned so much about carefully crafted wine vs. grocery store varieties, we would probably never want the latter again. Visiting the Julian area without experiencing Paul's tour and tasting would be a great loss. In our experience, there is nothing that compares to this place!
What an amazing experience! We made an appointment, and Paul was super accomodating for our tour, the process was very easy. Paul gave us a tour of the tasting room and the winery, which was amazing. To hear the story about how he built the winery and the maticulous attention to detail is truly inspiring! I highly recommend a visit. You will learn a great deal about wine making and taste some great local wines. The wines were all fantastic and we can't wait to go back out when the 2020's are released later this year!
We discovered this delightful gem of a winery several weeks ago. We made an appointment and had a wonderful visit with the owner, Paul. In a nutshell (no pun intended), Paul makes amazing wines. He took us through each year of his wine inventory and described the challenges coming from the weather and how he compensated. The result is that all of his wines were excellent.I would highly recommend this winery to everyone. It's in a beautiful location up on a mesa surrounded by other ranches. Paul takes his time with his visitors to show them the grounds, discuss how he built customized wine marking equipment and all of the buildings on the ground. They do not take walk-ins so you must make an appointment. We spent a delightful afternoon with our friends enjoying the wines, the location and conversations.
Had the best time touring the winery with Paul. He explained the entire process in great detail! He truly knows his wines and each bottle we tried was distinctly different from the next. You can tell how much thought goes into each batch! The property is gorgeous and great for a day away from the bustle of city life. Highly recommended for a great day out with some friends.
Paul is the best host. His knowledge of wines and his passion for winemaking are unparalleled. His wines are absolutely delicious and I particularly enjoyed his 2016 sangiovese. I will be back again to enjoy this scenic winery and the great wines

We made an appointment and visited this recently opened winery on a Friday. The trip from San Diego to the Walnut Tree Ranch was scenic and a short drive from Santa Ysabel. Mesa Grande Road was especially interesting as it wound up to the winery which is at 3000 feet. We were greeted by Paul who is a very knowledgeable viticulturist. After a tour, we tasted his Sangiovese, Cabernet Saviagon and Zinfindel wines along with his blends. All of the grapes for his wine are produced on the property. His attention to production detail and his love of his work is evident in his excellent wines. We had a great time and never felt rushed or pressured to make a purchase (although we did buy). As a bonus, the owner's family has pottery and wood art objects for sale in the tasting room for very reasonable prices. Overall, a very worthwhile and enjoyable wine experience in the newest wine-producing area of San Diego County. Highly recommend a visit here soon!
