Delicious food! Will be back!

They add on fees, such as the Sustainability fee. What is this... San Francisco?

The chirashi bowl has a ton of variety including fresh ikura (not very common these days). I found the cuts of fish were also not close to the fish bloodline (they prioritized fattier cuts) which is much appreciated

This place has been here for decades and is now under new management I think. Much improved decor, food quality, brighter and cleaner, but prices are still worth it. Definitely give it another try if you haven't been here in awhile. I only wish they did delivery!

I’m not joking when I say I came here twice in one week—it was that good! The atmosphere is beautiful and welcoming, with immediate greetings as you walk in. I had udon (about $16-$17.50) both times, my boyfriend got a lunch box ($17.50), and my friend tried the spicy tuna roll ($7.50). We all loved our meals, which were great portions for the price. The complimentary tea was a lovely touch that elevated the experience. While the wait time was a bit long, the quality made it worth it. Highly recommend for an authentic, delicious meal!

We made a reservation for Friday night because we knew it would be busy. When we got there, no one met us at the door and we stood around for some time until one of the workers yelled at us from the bar “sit anywhere you like”. Only after having sat down at a too small table we informed the waitress that in fact we had made a reservation and she moved us to our saved table.
Our waitress was very friendly and the food very good. We order some appetizers, main dishes and sushi. One of the appetizers arrived at the end of the meal, with no explanation as to why and the two sushi rolls arrived after all the other people in our party had finished their meals. With no apology from the staff!!

I have been here several times. The food is alright. The service is pretty bad. I walked in and stood by the door for 7 minutes, waiting to be seated. By minute 6, I was on my phone, looking for another place to go to, and ready to walk out. A member of the staff finally noticed I was standing there. Other people who would walk in later would be seated sooner than I was. I don’t buy the excuse that they are busy and didn’t notice me. This is what a restaurant does all day long, busy or not. They better hope they are busy, or they would soon be out of business.

I was about to complain to the owner. After reading the other reviews here, I realized this is a systematic issue. Other reviewers have experienced poor service. That is not likely to be fixed anything soon. The owners simply don’t care. Otherwise, they would be here addressing the complaints. This is for other people thinking about coming here to eat.

In shortest terms, the food is alright. The service sucks. I would suggest you complain to the manager rather than be like me. Otherwise, nothing will ever change. And if you give them a chance and they still fail to do anything about it, this makes it easier for you to go elsewhere with your money.

After I was done with my main meal and still a little hungry, I told the waitress that I was thinking about getting something extra. She said that she would come back in a bit. I almost forehead smacked myself at how dense she is. Do you want to bring me a menu? I kept quiet to see what she would do. She never did bring me a menu. Five minutes later, she comes back and asks what I would like. I almost said with sarcasm that a menu would be nice. Instead, I ordered a handroll with ahi and yellowtail. Got charged extra for the yellow tail. Bad service and extra charges…hmmm…

The decor is nothing to write home about, and the other reviewers weren’t kidding about fellow diners bringing their dogs into the place.

Note: If you pay with credit card, you will pay extra.

Would I come here again? Maybe once in a while. After dealing with bad service and extra fees, I am frustrated to say the least.

Parking: Parking can be painful. The entrance is awkward and located on the street. The two parking lots are off to the left and right sides of the restaurant. One other lot is across the street. The restaurant shares the lots with several other businesses, including a small motel. It is hard to get in and out of the parking lot. Too many cars in a small lot.

We were so hungry after our long drive and we took the kids with us. I was looking for a place that's still open after 8 pm that is not fastfood. The ambiance in this place is nice. I felt like I wasn't in Monterey. I was expecting my katsudon to be so good but to my surprise the pork katsu wasn't really pork cutlets. When I was biting onto it, I couldn't see any fibers of the meat and couldn't feel the pork texture when you bite it. To make it simple, the texture is like a huge chicken nuggets. I was sad but since I was so hungry I ate it. It was okay and nothing super special but the servers and the workers are really friendly. We also tried the albacore roll, chicken karage and a bento combination. Too bad my wife chose the pork cutlet with her tempura combo. Same chicken nugget texture. The tempura dip was a little bland and the miso soup was a little salty. Nonetheless, cool resto vibe and friendly workers. Food wise, it's a 3/5. Again, I wasn't expecting an authentic Japanese meal but it's better than eating fastfood. Food can be better. Thanks for the great friendly service.
