I don't live in the area but some friends and I are out that way for an event at a winery each year for many years now and always stop at Screaming Mimi's. In past years I would have rated it 5 out of 5 but this year was a disappointment. In the past the flavors were really interesting and there had to have been 30 or 40 different flavors. This year there were far, far fewer options and they were all pretty mundane. Could have gotten those flavors anywhere. Hope it's a glitch and it's back to the old Screaming Mimi's when we're there next year.

Voted Sonoma County's best for a reason! Always able to sustain it's long lines of customers with the long list of flavors and ways to enjoy, yum!

Starting this out to say - Screamin’ Mimis is a Sebastapol icon, it’s a very popular place and has the tastiness to prove it. They served probably 25 people in the 30 minutes we were there. Looking at the menu, there were seven (eight?) vegan flavors and a very clear sign that non-dairy options included cups or a vegan waffle cone (at $2.75). Vegans can order the raspberry, lemon, guava, coconut, cassis, mango sorbets, or a vegan creme de menthe or Mud flavor. There’s even a vegan java chocolate pre-pint. My lemon sorbet was very tasty Onto the concerning thing - I got my small lemon sorbet waffle cone and there was definitely some other flavors on it too (photo 2). I scraped those parts off, my guess is that all the sorbets/vegan flavors are handled with one scooper and are all in one section, and some Mud / raspberry sorbet got on my lemon sorbet scoops. The less ideal option is that it was scooped with a dairy chocolate. Based on the colors, I think it’s the first option since the sorbets are the only red/pink option. It was packed with people so I didn’t go in to ask about it but I hope someone can ask them soon!

Whoever says this place isn’t the actual best is either a liar or full of it. Every time I eat at any other ice cream place, I compare it to this. Nothing ever beats it out. Ever.

I got a root beer float. It was straight seltzer water. I'm telling you it was vanilla ice cream in flavorless carbonated water. It wasn't even brown. I think they try to make homemade soda or something, but it just tastes terrible. I ate a few bites of ice cream and tossed it.

My friend got ice cream in a cone. It had chocolate syrup poured on the OUTSIDE of the cone, and wrapped in napkins. The employee made a weak apology when handing it to me. It immediately dripped onto her dress before she got to try it and fell apart quickly.

This place used to be so good, but since the pandemic it's expensive and very disappointing. Scoops of ice cream are slightly larger than a golf ball. Twice I've ordered a two-scoop hot fudge sundae & gotten a small dish which is mostly whipped cream and uninspiring chocolate sauce. It's hard to find the Ice cream in there.
The cookie dough ice cream had large, overly sweet, hard, chalky rectangles which bore no similarity to cookie dough. I had to spit them out.

As far as ice cream goes, it's good. Nothing insane but I still liked it.

Walked in for a waffle cone and tried the "Bees Knees" (Lavender and Honey Comb) ice cream. Delicious! They ran out of big waffle cones so they gave me extra in a bowl with a smaller cone and that made me happy (they asked first)

Great ice cream, nice staff, and they have a great funky artsy vibe going on inside. I'm not surprised it has such a high rating here, it has earned it

Vegetarian options: They have a whole vegan ice cream menu

Dietary restrictions: They have non dairy ice cream and cones

Parking: It's downtown Sebastapol so you may have to walk a bit to get there

Kid-friendliness: It's an ice cream shop that I would have been madly in love with as a kid
