Yesterday would’ve been my son‘s 10th birthday today. But he passed away shortly after he was born I quietly ordered a piece of chocolate cake to go. And I don’t like chocolate cake. But it was the only cake they had on the menu. Nobody knew why I was ordering cake. But every year I get a slice cake and I blow out a candle for what could’ve been. Last night I left the cake on the counter. For some reason this 10 year anniversary feels very final. At this point in my life where the option to have another kid doesn’t exist anymore and there are no more “what ifs” or “could’ve beens” left to hope for. This morning I got up and had a bite of cake. Figuring I shouldn’t let it go to waste.
It was rich and moist and somehow perfect. As someone who doesn’t even like chocolate, I couldn’t believe how satisfying it was. I ate every last crumb. I licked the icing out of the container.
And somewhere between the first bite and the last, I realized something.
For ten years, I’ve been honoring the loss.
But I’ve never tasted the sweetness that still exists around it.
Maybe that’s what this 10th anniversary is.
Not pretending it didn’t happen.
Not forgetting him.
But choosing to stop starving myself emotionally for a life that didn’t unfold the way I imagined.
The cake was never meant to sit there untouched.
Maybe neither was I.

So today, I might go back and order another slice.
And this time, it won’t be for what could’ve been.
It will be for what still is.

I never thought I could like chocolate cake, but it turns out I was wrong. I have spent so much time mourning that I have probably let many metaphorical delicious cakes passed me by. And I know I’m sad and emotional and dramatic right now but that cake was shockingly good. But I need more good “cake” in my life.

I have literally called two friends today to tell them to try the cake at ocado. I can’t promise you it will be life-changing for you, but it definitely sparked a change in me.

We try to dine or takeout once a week from these guys. Great choices and many different options. Still sad the Penne pastas are gone but plenty more options to choose.

Happy i found this place! I got 2 starters. The spicy nachos and the Szechuan chickun lettuce wraps. So tasty! Loved the strawberry basil limeade too ⭐️✨ Updated from previous review on 2026-01-26

I was with a coworker and we split the garlic bread for an appetizer and I had the Smokin Boss burger after much deliberation on the menu. So many options! The burger was quite good. I will be back as there are many things to try. My only negative feedback was I thought the garlic bread was quite small for an appetizer, and the parking was paid lot parking. Your options are meter parking or lot parking, but no free parking.

This place is delicious. It’s located right on Ventura so you gotta search for parking but it’s well worth it. The food is very fresh and doesn’t leave you bogged down. I had e the Buffalo cauliflower and street tacos and they were delicious!!! It’s my new favorite place.

"Outstanding.... (O'cado) you knock me out!" This 100% vegan restaurant meet wine bar is my neighbor must. From the ravenous wraps to the impossibly delicious tacos and appetizers, try the O'crab Cakes w/ poppy seed sauce and slaw. It's what they call life changing flavor. The Mac n Cheese with house 'bacon' bits and panko is unforgettable as are the Chickun Wings (hunny chipotle, sweet chili and Nashville hot are my top flavor recommends). Their breakfast/brunch menu is in full bloom with Churro French Toast, Egg O'Muffin and all the Breakfast Burritos. You can enjoy bar seating, inside tables and/or their outdoor patio. I've enjoyed outings here with friends, date night with bae, my birthday a few years in a row and just a nice happy hour out via Wine Wednesday (1/2 bottles, $8 on select glasses), Taco Tuesday (any 2 for $11), Margarita Mondays ($8) and weekly Sangria specials (also $8). All the dishes are a must from pasta to whoopie pie. Aside from an incredible select of vegan friendly wines, they also have craft brew/beer, cocktails, coffee, kombucha, lemonade, mocktails, natural sodas (Boylan and Coke the original/og Mexican Bottle with no additives), still and sparkling water. Not to mention teas. Family style meals as well as catering available. O'cado does a lot of takeout and delivery. Reservations are sometimes recommended, but rarely a long wait. Love coming here for lunch or dinner, but hope to start brunching here on occasion. Pet friendly. Free Wi-Fi. Incredible staff. The marvel of the O is one you'll want to take in as well as be glad you did. "Excited! You make me wanna shout!"

We really love this place and come here from Venice where we live to enjoy it. Really delicious food, lots of choices, all vegan. The staff is very friendly and the services quick. Highly recommended!

O’cado is one of those places that just gets it. The menu is packed with bold, thoughtful flavors and a vibe that makes you want to stay awhile. I especially love their brunch menu—creative, comforting, and always satisfying. Their rotating specials keep things exciting, and every dish feels like a win for the plant-based community.

Food and service were both awesome. We had the Ocado burger and avocado tacos. Both tasted great. Followed with the cookies & cream ice cream. Both servers were very friendly and attentive, especially when we mentioned about a food allergy. We would definitely come again and highly recommend!

Update: went for lunch today, had amazing service from Jose, and my non-vegan lunch companion could not believe the warm chocolate cake was vegan. An absolutely wonderful place to enjoy a vegan meal! We will be back😁

Lovely meal, a fully vegan menu, and a nice bar selection that has happy hours. Will definitely be back. I enjoyed the brussel sprout appetizer so much I will be thinking about it until I go back. My main course was so good, I finished 3 out of 4 of my potato and pablano tacos before I remembered to photograph.

I think this is the best vegan restaurant in Sherman Oaks. It's also nice that they have clean, pet-friendly tables. The owner and most of the staff are vegan and very polite and friendly. The bathrooms and the restaurant are very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this restaurant.
