I don't know where else to submit some feedback so I'll do it here.
The double cheeseburger needs a renovation. The meat was kinda dry, the bread slightly stale and not doing a good job of holding things together. Clumps of lettuce kept falling out. There was a watery mess spilling out of the bottom, from the tomato and sauce. The chopped lettuce defeats the purpose of having lettuce on the bottom. It tasted okay, but it doesn't do a good job of staying intact. A bit too much height on the burger.
Top notch service, the staff are wonderful

I've been a fan of this place for years. The food is consistently good. However, I remember when there was more meat on the sandwiches. They felt scaled back on the meat a few years ago. Since then, I don't go as often. That said, the quality is still really good.

đ The Star: Pastrami Sandwich
From the very first bite, the pastrami sandwich delivers. The meat is thinly sliced, juicy and flavourful, piled high on fresh bread â the kind of sandwich youâre going to remember. Many guests describe it as one of the best pastrami sandwiches theyâve had. ïżŒ It hits that sweet spot of nostalgia and real deli-style craft.
đ Crowd Favourite: Chili Cheese Fries
Pair that sandwich with their chili cheese fries and youâre in for a treat. The serving is generous and the fries are loaded with toppings â a perfect complement to the main. Multiple reviews call the fries âmassiveâ and âincredibly goodâ, which makes them ideal for sharing. ïżŒ
đ° Value & Portion Size
One thing that really impressed: you donât feel like youâre overpaying for mediocrity. The Hat manages to offer large portions and satisfying quality at a price that feels fair for what youâre getting. As one reviewer said: âFor what youâre getting, the value is solid.â ïżŒ
đ Service & Atmosphere
While the setting is casual (counter ordering, quick service), the staff are described as friendly and efficient. The place doesnât try to over-dress itself; it leans into being straightforward, unpretentious, and comfortable. One visitor noted that it felt âclean, welcoming, and old-school in the best way.â ïżŒ
If I were to sum it up: The Hat in Simi Valley nails exactly what it sets out to do. Great pastrami, outstanding chili cheese fries, solid value, and good service. Whether youâre stopping by solo or sharing with friends, this is a spot that delivers satisfying, no-frills food done well.

My favorite is the pastrami burger here. The rest of my family loves the classic pastrami dip. If we get a side, it's usually onion rings which are crispy, breaded on the outside and soft inside. The staff is always patient with my older parents.

TERRIBLE!! Disgusting!!!
This place is going down hill. I would not recommend this place. We just ordered two pastrami sandwiches and a large onion ring. The place is 15 minute drive each way. When we get home the sandwiches are sparsely filled with pastrami and the breads a totally soaking wet to the point the bread is just falling apart. In 25 years of going here we have never seen such slop!! The onion rings were even worse, they were nothing but shredded fragments of half burnt rings. They tasted terrible and were hard as rocks in some cases. Total crap. See picture.
We called the store manager, Wilmer, who was one of the rudest unprofessional managers I have ever spoken with. Terrible not caring attitude. He says if you bring it back we will give you a replacement order. I told him the round trip is 30 minutes and just issue a credit for the $32 we spent. It would be so simple. Instead this punk was insulting and said bring it back or too bad.
I guess I will now speak with Corporate and see if this Wilmer joker is a true representative of the organization. In the meantime, I would not recommend for anyone to go here unless you can inspect the quality of your food, before leaving. I also am concerned about the health aspect of what was served. The onion rings taste was rancid.
I would have never guessed this place would drop to this low level!

SoâŠmy love like relationship with The Hat is contingent on how much I am craving Pastrami! Tonight I was craving and tonight The Hat Delivered. The sandwich was loaded with the perfect tasting pastrami; and the extra pickles, and yellow peppers just took it over the top. The drive-thru line was about 6 cars long, at 7:00 PM and took about 20 minutes to get through. In-N-Out can do 30 cars in 20 minutes - just saying. They used to have one size of onion rings, but now they have two. The small is way too small, but not much less in price. Next time itâs a large order of onion rings for us.
The only negative, which is the same as always for this place is the cost. Over $30 for two sandwiches and a small onion ring. I suppose thatâs why they only have 6 cars in the drive-thru rather than 30. And four stars instead of five.
