Im here to say that I purchased some Ferrara's bread at Gelson's, specifically the regular sourdough. I know they make at least one other variety, with some kind of herds and maybe olives?? We'll, the regular variety i purchased has a distinctive herd flavor, possibly thyme. I made a peanut butter and blackberry jam sandwich, it was disgusting because of this. The herb flavor was so subtle that you couldn't smell it when Matthew sandwich but you definitely tasted it when eating it! The bakery has no website to register a complaint (strange), so here I am. I drove out of my way, since our Gelson's burned down here in the Palisades, specifically to purchase this bread. Very disappointed. It seems like the flavor was a result of a contamination from a different variety made with the same equipment, hence the subtle but noticeable flavor.
