Cute friendly diner style restaurant with good value dinners and the burger I got was absolutely delicious! Only problem it was too much to eat!

Home-cookin'! That's what we got during our visit to the Red Viking: familiar comfort food that feels like it came straight out of your grandma's kitchen. Hearty vegetable beef soup, meatballs (Swedish or Danish), sausage and sauerkraut, mashed taters...what's not to love?
The Red Viking is a humble little establishment that apparently has been here in Solvang for quite a while, and after our meal here, it's easy to see why. The food is unassuming, understated...but fantastic. It's hard to articulate, but the feelings that washed over me as I was enjoying my meal reminded me of Thanksgivings at my grandma's house, surrounded by family...back when we had one, anyway. It was a wonderful feeling, and the fact that the food here was able to transport me to a time and place so far away, and in the past...that's pretty special.
I'm sure some people won't have a clue what I am talking about, and probably won't see the modest fare being served here as being anything special...but for those of us who DO get it, a dinner at the Red Viking is more than just a meal: it's also a memory. A good one.

Loved the service! First time I tried Danish food. I can't compare. I liked the meatball sandwich. I'm not a beer drinker but the party I was with loved the beer.

Let me start by saying the v place looks really cute, and perfectly keeps with the town's theme, and the girls working the front all seemed to be very nice girls. Unfortunately they are young, inexperienced, and totally without any training. Sadly customer service was lacking in every area. We tried the club sandwich thinking that would be a safe thing to order without venturing out to any new tastes. They couldn't even get that right. The sandwich was served on cold, toasted sourdough bread. After one bite of the dryest food I've ever put in my mouth, the sandwich fell apart. I tried to doctor it up with some mayo and mustard, but it was beyond saving. The cheese that came on it seemed to suck the life out of the rest of the sandwich. After that experience I can't even imagine trying any of their other foods.

Not a traditional Danish. Captains Platter- shrimps and fish & chips were like microwave-cooked

Not a great experience.
Our server didn’t know the menu well and seemed annoyed to be there. Several side items listed weren’t available, but still on the menu. Food took a long time, and we didn’t get the fries that were supposed to come with the kids’ meal. The mac and cheese was basically watery pasta with a sprinkle of cheese. Chicken Caesar salad was just bagged salad with chicken on top — not a real Caesar.
They also added an automatic 18% gratuity for our group, which wouldn’t be an issue if the service had been good — but it really wasn’t.
Feels like they rely more on location than quality.

My only thought about this place is that the food needs more flavor, the decorations are ok and the prices are ok too according to a touristic place.
Just one of my family members really like their food. 👍

The Red Viking Restaurant used to serve delicious Denmark meals. Now ... service is none existent. Restrooms are out of service. It took almost 1 1/2 hrs to see our meal. Taste is not the same. It is so sad to see a landmark fall so poorly.

Great food and staff. Food was flavorful, don't know what these other folks talking about food being bland - mine was seasoned as it should be my Danish standards.

We came here for brunch because a local told us that this was THE place on Solvang to get ebelskivers (if you don't know what those are, I can't help you!) We had an excellent brunch and the ebelskivers were delish!! I completely don't understand the reviews complaining about the portions, what?? I was so full! We were all stuffed. And the prices are very reasonable. Great for a casual meal, great for families, a Solvang gem.
The staffs are friendly and very attentive. We love our foods.
