Didn't stay at the hotel but went to the spa. Wonderful spa with all the extras.
Overall I would describe our experience as… meh. We came to stay at MacArthur for 5 days during our wedding week. The event staff was good but the hotel staff was lacking, tainting our special week.
First there was the check in process. We arrived early because of our early morning flight in from Chicago. Unlike most hotels, they couldn’t accommodate us a minute before their 4pm check in so we sat around waiting for 4 hours. Fine, fair. We get to our room after it’s been “inspected”— we paid for a premium suite with an outdoor bathtub— all to find the tub half filled and dead bugs in floating the standing water in the tub. I immediately call the front desk and they come and clean it, but housekeeping leaves whatever bleaching agent all around the tub. So after they leave, I end up rinsing it myself. I’m immediately turned off from even using it.
The next day, we reset and drive up to Napa. In the middle of a spa appointment I get a text from MacArthur saying “our privacy light has been left on and housekeeping has not cleaned our room.” My first thought is, wtf? No one explained this to us. Upon returning that evening we march up to the front desk and ask what is going on. They said someone should have explained the privacy light system upon check in and apologize and that , yes, guests are often confused by it and that’s why they send a text.
(A side note about: in our room there were actually 3 digital light panels, all of which had the option to “turn on all” lights. So at any given point if we turn on all lights, you could accidentally activate this mysterious privacy light.)
At this point we’ve already returned for the evening so we request that room service come and clean the room at 9AM the following day, so the room will be ready for a bridal makeup and hair trial I have later that day. They agree, apologize again, and give us a breakfast credit. Fine, let’s wipe the slate clean
The next day we leave our room at 8:45 and return at 9:55. Our room is still dirty. At this point I’m freaking out: I have a hair and makeup scheduled to start in 3 hours and the room is a mess even though we had been assured it would be cleaned. I still have to shower and get ready (clean hair and a fresh face a requirement for many hair and makeup vendors) so I call down to the front desk basically on the verge of tears and they sort of brush me aside saying I am next on the list for housekeeping- no apology. I then wait 15 mins and no one shows up. At this point my husband to be sees me freaking out and decides to go up to the front desk— it takes him physically going to the front desk and re-explaining the situation for any urgency to be applied. 5 minutes later house keeping shows.
I could go on about these mishaps that tainted our experience but these are the major ones. If I was to do it over again, I would recommend doing your wedding at MacArthur but not staying there. The event staff is good, but in some of the most basic hotel service tasks (early check in, cleaning the room), honestly any Holiday Inn outperforms. At this price point, you’re better served staying in Napa and driving over for your event rather than staying here. The service just isn’t good.
Rooms: Meh- nice if they could get their housekeeping schedule together. Probably could get more for your money in Napa

Had dinner at the restaurant. Service was excellent. Food was too notch. I had the pork chop. It was cooked to perfection with a great blend of flavors. Yum.

We couldn’t have asked for a more stunning and magical location than MacArthur Place for our destination wedding in Sonoma, CA!
Not only is the venue beautiful, but the staff was exceptional. They were incredibly accommodating and worked closely with us, making sure every detail was handled with care. They were flexible, supportive, and truly invested in making our wedding day flawless. We couldn’t have done it without their hospitality.
We also highly recommend working with Alyssa Bray-Events, who helped us bring our vision to life and made the entire process stress-free. They worked seamlessly with the venue to ensure every detail was perfect. In addition, Alicia Parks Photography was incredible at capturing the beauty of the venue and the joy of the day, creating memories we will cherish forever.
If you're looking for a wedding venue in Sonoma with an amazing team behind it, MacArthur Place is absolutely the place. We are so grateful to have had our wedding here, and it was truly the best day of our lives!

We popped in for Coffee and pastry and good LORD was it wonderful! I had the mushroom infused cappuccino and my daughter had the mushroom Matcha—both were amazing! The pastries were incredible, too, and the property is gorgeous.

We paid over $1,000/night to stay in a suite with a soaking tub and were disappointed. Neither our phone nor our TV worked--we informed the hotel twice about the TV, and never received any follow-up communication about whether they even tried to fix it (it did not work the entire stay). The wifi signal barely reached our room and was almost unusable. And the attention to detail on the little things was lacking as well--for example, we used up the salts by the bath on our first day, left the lid conspicuously open so they would refill it, and they replaced the lid but did not refill the salts. Everyone we interacted with was nice, the grounds were beautiful, and we enjoyed having the pool to relax by, but there are much nicer and better value places to stay at in the Sonoma/Napa area. Would recommend that you either book one of the cheaper rooms here or stay elsewhere.

Their pizza is the best in the valley! They have kept the menu to a manageable size. They add and remove items periodically which keeps things fresh and fun. At times their service can be spotty but the staff is young and friendly. There is a huge outdoor seating area and is perfect for a summer evening. There is also plenty of inside seating.

It pains me to write this review as the grounds are beautiful and the staff was A+. However, if you like getting a good night sleep this hotel isn’t for you. You are better off booking The Lodge or The Auberge. At this price point you expect the bed would be like sleeping on a cloud. The reality, bed was very old, hard as rock, caving in…basically like sleeping on a bag of rocks. Linens were scratchy and pillows have seen better days. So if you value sleep, look elsewhere.
If you’re looking for a luxurious, peaceful, romantic getaway…look elsewhere. While the property and rooms are perfection, the staff (from check in, valet, restaurant, pool service) are pretty cold and overall seem miserable) then add constantly barking dogs in the rooms and screaming toddlers at the pool. Could have spent far less and stayed at a budget hotel. A shame because property is very pretty. Overall, great hotel for wealthy families and no one else.
