What an unexpected delight visiting this lovely space full of tasty pastries and amazing coffee! Solid cup of drip with more than the usual fixings to choose from; everything seemed thoughtfully considered. The Cherry on Top: the Apple Pop Tart... Just. Have it.

HANDS DOWN THE best coffee shop in Sonoma! Forget Pete’s and other hard to park coffee spots - plenty of parking, delightful pastries, delicious top-notch coffee, and nice indoor and outdoor seating!! Love this new iteration of the former Barking Dog Roasting Co! GO! 5-stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great place for a coffee and better than the chains. They are a Swedish style coffee shop with some pastries and candies. Just a few minutes from Sonoma square they have their own parking lot.

I usually dread ordering espresso. But Småstad was a really nice surprise. Great espresso, friendly and knowledgeable barista. Would go back again.

Smastad Bakery Cafe on Broadway in Sonoma is a welcome addition to the bakery cafes in and around Sonoma. Move over Peet’s and Dutch Brothers, you have some competition.

Like all good bakeries, customers must get there early to catch all the best goodies. I arrived late around almost 12 Noon and so most of the Swedish specialties were gone.

I was able to get the Swedish version of shortbread called Vaniljkakor. It is thick, buttery and has a dab of raspberry jam in the middle. So satisfying, not too sweet. And not crunchy or hard. Nothing like those Scandinavian cookies one sees at the grocery store or drug store in a tin.

Smastad’s version is the real thing and so yummy!

When I go back, which I hope will be soon, I want to try the savory pastries like the smörgastarta, and of course their own fresh house roasted coffee.

There’s plenty of seating in the back, a nice little picnic like area. No doubt Smastad will be the place to get a morning cup when the weather gets warmer.

Staff is friendly, welcoming and helpful. I was told to get to Smastad by 7:00 AM when they open. They have lots of items fresh out of the oven.

This place is adorable and very dog friendly, but what really sets it apart is the quality of the coffee. Treat yourself and get a bag of their beans to go next time you stop in. You won't regret it.

Cutest locally-owned coffee shop with freshly baked pastries and cute Swedish/Californian merchandise. Calm place to work with laptop as well!
