Taquería La Esmeralda is a Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. The atmosphere is festive and full of authentic touches, with colorful murals, tile work, and flags. They have seating both indoor and patio, with the option of fast food for take out or a nice casual sit down meal. The staff is always friendly and smiling, and the service is attentive. The food is good. The enchiladas and birria tacos are absolutely delicious. The chicken flautas are fabulous, and the Saturday Baja fish taco plate is generously proportioned and balanced. The quesabirrilla tacos hit the spot, with great flavor and consomme. The carnitas are crazy, and the Esmeralda burrito is full of asada and good. The shrimp and octopus cocktail is ridiculously good with tons of protein. They have a self service salsa bar with chips and lots of sauces. The chips and salsa are fresh. The churros are incredible. However, the chips can be a bit stale from sitting out in a very large pan under a heat light. There is always more food than expected. The prices are great.
