If I could give 0 stars, I would.

A couple of years ago we stayed at Basecamp in Canada and had a good experience, so we decided to try their Tahoe location this summer. Big mistake.

We booked a family room for $440/night (with kids and a dog). When we arrived, we were told the hotel is “pet friendly” but not all rooms are pet friendly. Fine, our dog could sleep in the van. But then we walked into the room — and I was shocked. Old, dirty, smelly, stained carpets, grimy windows… it honestly felt like cockroaches would crawl out at night. This building is just an old motel that they slapped some “remodeling” on, but all the odors and filth remain.

The biggest problem: all family rooms are directly in front of their bar and courtyard. People were walking, drinking, yelling, and eating right outside our windows. Zero privacy, zero peace. You can’t even open the windows for air because it smells awful inside, yet outside it’s loud drunk crowds just feet away.

We decided not to stay and booked another (clean, quiet!) hotel nearby — the best decision ever. Later that night, when we came back to walk our dog, we heard live music blasting from a block away. Sure enough, it was Basecamp. The band was still playing way past 10pm. How are families supposed to put kids to sleep in that noise? Who puts “family rooms” right in front of the bar and stage?! Unbelievable.

And no, we did not get any refund. At least we saved our vacation by leaving.

👉 Don’t be fooled by their pictures — they’re outdated and do not reflect reality.
👉 If you’re a family with kids (or anyone who values sleep, cleanliness, and peace), avoid this place.
👉 If you want an overpriced motel where you can drink all night, party, and vomit on the deck — then sure, this is your spot.

Never again. Absolutely do not recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay at Basecamp. Staff is friendly, there is plenty of parking. They have 2 hot tubs, a restaurant onsite with live music and games outside to play.. breakfast is not included but there is a separate coffee shop in the lobby that you can grab breakfast/coffee from which is open 7-2 pm. Clean place. Nicely decorated.

My favorite little boutique hotel in South Lake.

We loved our stay here! It truly was an unique experince. Rooms are basic but comfortable and functional. Staff was always friendly to answer questions and were able to accommodate a room type change when I accidently booked the wrong one. The location is very walkable. Make sure to get discount beach passes from the front lobby. We loved spending time at the brewery.

The area is nice, but they definitely need some upgrades, the hotel is very old and kinda dirty.

Matt at the front desk was amazing! Walked in to book a last minute room and he made it so easy. We will be back soon!

Bunk bed is good enough for a family with more than 5. Good location with walking distance to restaurants and beach.

Such a cool place. We stopped for coffee a few years ago, and thought we would stay if we ever had a chance. The staff is overall very friendly, and the coffee was great. We also found the prices to be a great value, not extremely expensive and very nice quality, rustic but chic.
Had a wonderful experience with Claude at the front desk, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and to accommodate us.
Atmosphere is surprisingly family friendly, enjoyed ping pong, board games to lend downstairs, nice acoustic musician outside. Looking forward to enjoying the hot tubs later. Highly recommend.

Excellent location and service. You’re just across the line from Nevada and the casinos (if that’s your thing) and very close to Heavenly. But you’re a street back so it’s not quite so bustling. The bed was comfy, they have a cool beer garden in the evenings and coffee shop in the mornings. Our TV had issues and was basically a bundle of wires coming out of the back down the wall, which took away some of the charm. Overall, we were glad to have stayed there because it was $100 cheaper than most comparable properties and still very comfortable.

Letty was a life saver! I locked myself out of my room and contacted the number listed on the office. She was kind enough to walk me through the steps to get me back into the room with no judgement. She was super kind and understanding that made the experience in staying there more comfortable.

Maddie and Matt are truly awesome. So kind and super attentive. My first time staying here and would definitely recommend. The location is superb! The lobby is adorable and so are the rooms. Make sure you buy the candle in the lobby, it smells SO GOOD!
