We were in South Lake Tahoe. We love indian food! So we tried this place. We ordered for pick up, my fave Saag Paneer with rice included, my husband's fave Paneer Tikka Masala with rice included, and Garlic Naan. Prices were affordable. They were delicious and will definitely come back when in Tahoe!
I’d give a 0 star if I could. We ordered dal and paneer curry, and specifically requested that rice be soft and fully cooked. They promised over the call that it’s soft. But it was only half-cooked. Dal had big chunks of chilli powder unmixed. Naan and paneer curry were just ok. We also got only one order of rice for 3 orders of curries in total.
While we understand it could get a bit off beat during weekends due to the inflow of orders, but I’d expect the orders to be cooked well and served to the quantity at the least, regardless of how it tastes.
I’d strongly not suggest anyone going here for rice.
If you’re in Lake Tahoe and craving Indian food, this is the only restaurant you should consider. Proper desi food, we had the food twice. It’s only a take out place. We had Veg Korma, Aloo Gobi and veg Biryani with Raita. It was delicious…must try!!
Best Indian food in Northern California! Great service and price! The lamb tikka masala, butter chicken, and lamb vindaloo 5/5 spicy are top tier! Get garlic naan and mango lassis! Ryan- the guy who answers the phones and counter is the GOAT!
One of the worst food I have ever had. The mango lassi tasted like burnt milk. When I went to complain about it, the person at the front desk accused me of lying. The chicken curry - spicy option that we ordered for was actually clumps of red chilli powder not even dissolved in the curry. As we started eating, the clumps of chilli powder started appearing in lumps, proof that it was not even mixed well, let alone bringing it to boil. We had to discard the entire order. Would never order food from here.
Tread carefully when you order from here. I had some awful food poisoning from her that left me incapacitated for three days.
Highly recommend for take-out. Flavorful curries, good prices.
Note: “spicy” isn’t that spicy so don’t be intimidated by menu
Best take out in Tahoe
We visited South Lake Tahoe during last week of Dec 2024. We ordered Chicken Chili and Chana Masala for dine out. That comes with complementary rice. The foods are so yummy and delicious that I could not imagine a restaurant can serve them. Especially Chana Masala was different kind. I think they seasoned with mustard and cumin with very little to no oil. We wish we stayed more days to taste their other items. These two items are must try if you are visiting South Lake Tahaoe,
We recently ordered here and had the chicken biryani - see photo attached. The food was abysmal. The biryani lacked salt and any flavors. Only vegetable we saw was onion and the biryani was full of red coloring (not red spice) as seen in this picture.
We had a craving for Indian food and decided to stop here as the reviews seemed good. Not sure what happened but what we got was the furthest from a biryani for $20. Also, the wait time was close to 20 mins. We wouldn’t have mind the wait time if the food would have been great. Only good things were the cashier seemed nice and he filled the food container to the max. Would not recommend at all.

A Must-Try in Tahoe!
During my trip to Tahoe, I tried various cuisines—Japanese, Italian, Mexican, and more—but nothing came close to the food at Curry & Grill. The food was absolutely delicious, with soft, fresh naan and perfectly seasoned paneer.
The staff were courteous, friendly, funny, and quick, making the experience even better. Unlike many Indian restaurants, their food felt light. I didn’t feel thirsty afterward, a true sign of the quality ingredients they use.
I loved it so much I went back twice and will definitely return whenever I’m in town. This place is a rare gem and highly recommended!
Great food. Loved the spice level and taste of curries we ordered.
Breads were amazing. Quality Indian food and good prices.
Would definitely pick up food again when in South Lske Tahoe
Great taste and the quantity was great. Must try their food.
Fasta Pasta was this terrific Italian take-out joint in South Lake Tahoe that was the mother of all hole-in-the-wall places. It was located inside a liquor store, had great food for low prices, and had the world's best garlic bread for something like $3+. Sadly, they (he) closed.
In its exact spot is now Curry & Grill. We came half for the nostalgia of Fasta Pasta, and half prompted by decent enough reviews. Sadly, though, it had none of the attributes of what used to make that spot great.
We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, samosa, garlic naan, and mango lassi. Flavorwise, the Tikka Masala and the Butter Chicken tastes nearly identical and not anyhing special. Flavorful enough and good over rice, but the obviously pre-cooked chicken meat was bland and it was just chicken and sauce; so kind of boring. Samosas were decent; 3 big ones for $9'ish. The lassi was also alright, but kind of gritty and that 12 oz cup was just tiny; not worth the money. On the other hand, the garlic naan was flavorful and the standout amongst our entire order; the only dish worth recommending.
The more egregious transgression of this place is they are charging prett much sit-down restaurant prices. And yet, volume-wise, the portions are not as much as take-outs from real restaurants. I mean, the appeal and promise of hole-in-the-wall places is you get pretty awesome food, and/or you get terrific prices, and/or you get a lot of volume for the money. Here, you are paying restaurant prices for pretty average food and you get less. SO....?? At least they were fast (we were there at 5pm before ski season, so probably not peak rush).
Nothing clear about the clear veg soup.
The Veg biryani was so hot that it burnt going in and coming out.
