Verde Mexican Rotisserie

HOME OF THE 24- DOLLAR BURRITO

Lets ponder for a moment what it would take to make a burrito worth twenty four dollars { well 23 and some change inc tip} thats what I paid today 10/20/24 around 1:45pm for a single steak burrito at Verde SLT.

First, lets no be hasty here, Verde has drawn strong reviews and high scores leading up to today, even from me. I in fact had this conversation with one of the owners a few years back, even then I was still taken aback by the price even in south lake tahoe where the tourist tax has been a thorn in the side of locals for generations.

Here's the things...

A. You might think that twenty four buck would buy you some leeway on water cups and extra salsa, not so fast there hombre. "water cups cost money" and they are for soda says the curly haired girl behind the counter. Ok, my mistake. to her credit, she did hand me one single additional salsa on request. but not without accompanying stink eye.

B. no one likes to be nickel and dimed, but this place is most definitely one of those spots that likes to add on additional for every little thing. salsa? pay me, cheese? pay me. And so this is how an innocent burrito grow quickly in price, if you want the things make a burrito a burrito, its gonna cost ya.

So was it good? See that's what prompted the writing of this review. Short answer is NO IT WASNT, For several reasons... I ordered guacamole on my burrito, NOT A guac-a-rito. It was overloaded beyond, and with sour cream {which ironically i didnt ask for}. but the fatal flaw? GRISTLE. See, self respecting mexi lovers will tell you, the defining point of a mexican restaurant is whether their cooks take the time to cut the fat off the meat. Cheap ones dont, we all know. but expensive places, like VERDE, are supposed to provide a gristle free burrito experience. But no, i ended up having to spit out THREE pieces of steak, THREE, from this rito.

Im sorry, but that is total unacceptable, esp when i just paid twenty four bucks. Not to mention that is was so overloaded with guac, I ended up actually dropping some of it, off the rito, onto my car seats. That was the final straw, as im pulled over near emerald bay wondering how im gonna to get the green mess out of my upholstery. I knew this was a review that had to be written.

Hey there Verde cooks, is this funny to you? Are you not entertained??

And to that smile-less lady behind the counter who wanted to guilt trip me into paying for a cup for water, Id say it should come out of three bucks I left you for my pathetically over priced to go order.

Short version, dont do it, unless you'd like a large helping of guile with your guac and gristle-rito. No thanks.

I was here with my family. The lady server very rude, I had never experienced such a rude behavior on any restaurant before.

The lady working in the front desk(cashier) was very very rude. Her facial expression and body language did not give us good impression about the place.

We had a dog so we opted to sit outside for lunch. And we happen to grab tissue box to use. She saw it from inside and briskly came and grabbed the tissue box and told me not to take the box outside in a rude tone. Like we want to steal the tissue box?

Hope they improve their service. Thank you!

This is our go-to after a hike. Really great nourishing Mexican food with options for different food sensitivities/preferences.

We visited this place while we visited Lake Tahoe! It’s a great place, the food was good, the place is clean. Their portion size is huge.
Would definitely recommend this place for someone who’s visiting Lake Tahoe.

Vegetarian options: They do have clearly labeled vegetarian options.

Food is tasty and quickly brought to your table. We have decided after several dining in experiences that we’ll order “to go”. The music is always too loud (blaring). Probably so the cook can hear it in the kitchen. Today the cook and the counter person were carrying on a loud personal conversation, shouting over the music through the service window. It was noisy with many patrons trying to talk over the music when we arrived, but the other patrons soon left and we realized the cacophony was the FOH female and the youngish male cook entertaining each other.

Vegetarian options: Burritos, salads

Parking: Shares the shopping center lot with several other popular restaurants and retail stores.

Kid-friendliness: High chairs.

Wheelchair accessibility: Handicap parking space very close to entrance. No stairs, level entrance

Service was really friendly here and the staff were helpful in identifying what was vegan on the menu for me. The food was expensive for what it was, it was okay but nothing mind blowing and lacked flavour somewhat. Perhaps the non-vegan dishes are more flavoursome as it was pretty limited in options (as in removing things from a dish to make it vegan).

Vegetarian options: Staff knowledgeable about what can be made vegan, but you are removing things from a dish to make it vegan and flavours weren't the best.

This location looks nice outside and the inside decor is decent. However, the food isn't that good, I tried there 1/4 chicken and it was dry, the coleslaw was not well mixed and the potatoes were stale. The staff isn't as helpful and overall would not try this again. It is very over priced food that is below average standard. The pictures on the website looks better than it taste.

Parking: Plenty of parking and it's free at least.
