Amazing food! Really clean and nice place to visit for lunch. They have beer and wine which is a big plus in my book!

Food was fantastic. You can taste the wood fire on the food. Service was a tad slow but so nice to not be rushed.

Pleasantly surprised by this cute little Twaiwan dinner spot with a Japanese izakaya vibe <3 Feels like home.

Found this new spot on Yelp and came here for dinner 2 nights ago. Absolutely loved ALL of the yakitoris that we tried. I had chicken skin, steak with sauce, chicken thigh, pork belly, pork belly rolled around mushrooms, pork neck, shitake and a spam and cheese fried skewer. All were cooked perfectly and and had great flavor. We also tried the curry omurice which was also good, but I think you def come here for the skewers. We also tried the white sesame pudding which was super special and delicious - the flavor of the sesame was very strong and I had never had anything like it before. Excited to come back again to try other things.

Have been looking forward to their soft opening for 6 months.. the new Cafe Half Bistro just acquired a new chef that will start operating evening hours to provide Japanese izakaya food (bbq skewers, yakitori, etc). Their Japanese curry rice omelette (omu-rice) is simply OMFG! The skewer combo is amazing value (appetizer combo, chicken and steak skewers, pork belly + pork wrap skewers, veggie skewers + rice + dessert )

Very nice little restaurant.

Food was ok but service was terrible. Waiter forgot two orders AFTER he repeated it to us. He also blocked the very narrow passage to get into the place chatting with someone. Not like he couldn't see us, he was looking right at us coming in. Better food and service elsewhere.

Hidden gem! Great yakitori. Seasonal thick-cut beef tongue is amazing

Exciting addition to the South City food scene! Confusingly located in the same space as Country Cottage Cafe, but only open for dinner. The most negative aspect is the physical location. The space is narrow... cozy is the kindest word here. Hard to navigate the space inside if you have a stroller. Walkway from the back storage to the front grills passes among the patrons, making the space feel even more cramped. The food is excellent. Ordered the combo and had a taste of everything. The appetizers were pretty simple, such as the edamame with garlic, but tasty and good at working up an appetite. The skewers were great. The meat ones were marinated with great flavors, tender and juicy. The vegetable skewers can use more flavor. The omurice was quite pretty; the omelette had a spiral imparted to it. But the curry was quite forgettable and the rice a bit too mushy. Also quite liked their sesame pudding dessert. Very sesame, and not too sweet.Glad to see another type of Asian food, hope they do well!

I didn't know this place was two restaurants in one. They actually use the same store as Country Cottage Cafe but they're a yakitori place at night. I tried the spam corn dog and the pork belly rice. In my opinion the portions were a bit too small. I'm typically someone who always take food togo and I found myself having to ask for the menu so that I can get full. The pork belly rice was a little disappointing, there was very little meat and the piece was misleading. From the top, you can see a huge piece, but that was just the size of the skin, the piece was cut at an angle. I wish that additionally, they gave more sauce for the rice and not just the tiny squirt they did. Overall the flavor was ok but not good enough to warrant the cost. The spam corn dog was a fresh take that also included melted cheese inside. It was more filling than the pork belly rice and I would definitely order this again. It's significantly cheaper and it's like if a fat mozzarella stick ate a piece of spam and morphed into a beautiful spam corn dog.

Easily the best Asian food in town. We have been here several times, and the food has been mind-blowing each time. The menu offers a good variety and changes seasonally with some long-time staples. The pork belly rice (東坡肉) is out of this world. The size of it is more of a tapas/smaller meal ($8.50). The Oyako don and omurice are delicious as well and are enough for a meal in comparison. Each dish has its own twist in flavors--other places simply can't compare. The grilled mentaiko was tasty. The beef tongue skewers were probably the most tender and juicy we have ever had. Dessert-wise, the sesame pudding is our all-time favorite. The Japanese cheesecake is a lot like uncle tetsu's. Not only was the food authentically Taiwanese-Japanese fusion, the service was also extremely personable and friendly--just like how it is in Taiwan. It always feels like we are being transported to Asia whenever we dine here. This joint definitely elevates the quality of the Asian food scene in the area. If you have friends who are stuck with the misconception of Asian food = cheap mystery meat in big portions, this is the perfect place to break that stereotype and establish the proper impression.

So this place is a brunch place during breakfast/lunch hours and for dinner it's a yakitori restaurant! We sat at the bar. The servers and chef were really nice. We didn't have any reservations. It might be best to get reservations because this place is small. I suggest sitting at the bar so you can see how your food is cooked! The curry omurice is a must! It's flavorful and plentiful! Perfect for 2! It gets busy. During our meal we received all the skewers we ordered but not the omurice. It was annoying that the couple sitting next to us that arrived 30 mins later got their omurice before we did.
