My first time here with my sister for lunch. We were planning to order the rice noodle 腸粉, unfortunately they were sold out already. The portion and taste are decent. For less than $9 is considered very good deal. A meal includes a choice of drink. A small bowl of soup and a pack of napkin! The most important is No Tips Accepted!! Wow, I thought I was in Hong Kong. Because some restaurants in Hong Kong have the same policy, no tips! If I'm in the neighborhood, I will try again.

If you're looking for a delicious and affordable meal in South San Francisco, the Grand Cafe is definitely worth a visit. I recently tried their pork chop, and it was absolutely delicious - tender, juicy, and just a little bit sweet. And at under $10, the value simply can't be beat. Plus, each meal comes with free milk tea, which is a nice touch. But it's not just the food that makes the Grand Cafe worth visiting - it's the atmosphere as well. The trays they use are reminiscent of those you might find in Hong Kong, which adds an extra layer of authenticity to the experience. And I particularly enjoyed the clay pots they use to serve some of their dishes - they really help to enhance the flavors and keep everything piping hot.But perhaps the most impressive thing about the Grand Cafe is that they refuse to accept tips. It's a refreshing change from many other restaurants, and it shows that they truly value their customers and want to provide excellent service without expecting anything in return. All in all, I would definitely recommend the Grand Cafe to anyone looking for a tasty and affordable meal in a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're in the mood for pork chop or something else on the menu, you're sure to leave feeling satisfied and happy.

Had a friend deliver some togo as I was feelin under the weather but man this brought me back up a little bit. Meat was soooo tenderized. You can always substitute your noodles but for me I always love ho fun(flat wide noodles). Delicious and clean noodle soup but nothing over the top and don't expect to be blown away. Just a simple cheap meal if you're in the area. A little hot sauce can go a long way if you feel like you need a little more flavor! Also comes with some milk tea, a little watered down though if you're thinking boba shops.

Prices per dish are lowest I seen in the Peninsula. Most dishes includes drink. Their dim sums looks pretty good and I'll try them next time.

LogisticsParking: street onlyPayment: card & cashSeating: abundant + they have a bathroomDish: $10 beef noodle soup.It was an ok mediocre dish. Good for a quick, simple meal but don't expect much from the flavor of the broth. The 4 different kinds of beef were the best part and was actually tender. The tripe does taste like water.

No frills cafe. Entree, soup of the day, milk tea, and a free pack of tissues. Also a note that says no tipping. All that for $8.50! These are like prices from 10 years ago. How do they even pay rent!

Price is reasonable, and the food is not bad. There is a sign saying “no tip please”, because it is self-service. Make sense.

Unfortunately, the low ratings with Grand Cafe from other reviewers are warranted. Before Covid I used to visit Hong Kong yearly so I end up missing Hong Kong style cafe food often. Which for me it has been difficult to find good spots in the Bay Area. I was dissatisfied with Grand Cafe after trying it for the first time. It's basically self-service and the customer service is not particularly great. They call out your numbers in Cantonese only. The place is also not the cleanest and there was plenty of trash lying around the floor with the tables being all sticky. The food is at an affordable price, but I was not a fan of basically everything I tried. The menu on their wall is also not consistent with their paper menu. They have a picture of lemon iced tea, but they say they don't even sell it here...So I opted for their Hong Kong Milk Tea which was flavorless and I had to use a lot of sugar and condensed milk that they have set out.Steamed BBQ Pork Buns ($3.96) appear to be big, but the BBQ Pork filling was pretty sad and it was cold when I bit into it. What I ordered for myself personally was the Beef Rich Noodle Soup ($8.87) which was okay until I bit into a piece of beef that had a strange soapy/cleaning product type of taste and had to spit it out into a napkin which is always very unpleasant to do. The rice noodles were pretty good and the broth was okay, but that one piece of meat tarnished the whole bowl. The Rice w/ Preserved Meat & Spare Ribs ($7.74) was decent in some aspects, but I've had much better at other restaurants. The Chinese sausage was paper thin. The spare ribs were solid, but they don't give a lot. The dried mushroom was pretty inedible and I couldn't even swallow it either. I felt like Gordon Ramsay every time he spits out food on Hells Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares. I never had to do that in any experience eating out in a decade or so until today. I feel bad wasting food and being this harsh on a business like this, but I really was just so disappointed. I personally wouldn't come back here again and my stomach ended up hurting afterwards. The service, to cleanliness, and quality of food were all a complete let down.

This place is self-serviced and refuses to accept tips. However, this place is quite clean and supplies plenty of condiments for customers. The food is combo mostly, meaning a dish with a drink included all for a price under $10. The quality of food is pretty decent too. I can't ask for more but hope that this eatery place will extend its business hours. So far it only opens for 4 hours a day. This place also operates with great integrity as it doesn't accept tips from customers but still Keeps the place very clean.

Checked this place out since there's 3 Chinese restaurants in a row competing for your patronage. I am familiar with Cheung hing and hing lung but this place is economy priced while providing the same size bowl of porridge. I actually had a whole preserved egg cut in 4 segments whereas hing lung gives you diced pieces that doesn't seem to equal a whole preserved egg in one order. Porridge was good consistency. Beef stew ho fun could use a little more flavor but quantity was huge. The chicken feet had 2 pieces placed on steamed pork riblets. The chicken (bock cheet gai) came with a large bowl of white rice supplemented with ginger & sauce plus a bowl of soup. You receive your choice of drink for each person. You order your food, get your number, go to the counter to receive your order when your number is called. Bus your tray on the rack of shelves before leaving. Simple decor, ample food, no tipping.

Food is definitely on the value side, i ordered hk style wonton noodle and salted fish spare ribs rice. Came with a drink and soup. I paid $17 which was really satisfying. Food could be a bit better but i think its fitted for the price. Will come back to try other items.

This was one of the worst experiences I've had out of all the restaurants I've visited. I always come in with good intentions and high hopes but this place was horrible. I come from a family of immigrants so when there was a language barrier I'm accustomed to using body language and pointing at menu items, and saying basic words when ordering. But these folks completely did not understand me and there was not one person who spoke English in the establishment. Even when I asked for a coke or rice they didn't understand me. They were out of 3 of the menu items I ordered. Then they gave my food to the wrong people, so I had to ask a customer to translate for me to get things fixed. We waited extra long since the people who got our order already started digging in. The portions were small, the food did not taste that good and my mother in law found a piece of plastic in her soup! I'm the patient one in my group but we had to leave. We couldn't even ask for a refund because of the language barrier. Mind you we came here for my girlfriends little brothers graduation. It was an awful experience, I would never go back. I ended up leaving to eat somewhere else on my own because I had to leave to work. No stars, no disrespect but I have to let the people know my truth. If you had a good experience here that's great, but that wasn't the case for us. Moving on to better things.

This is what you get from Grand Cafe: Cheap Cantonese food with cheap food quality. It's a fast food Cantonese version of Taco Bell. They earn my two stars for the decent selection of popular Cantonese dishes such as steam chicken flat noodles, rice noodles, beef brisket noodles, bbq meat rice combo... however, expect rubbery textured chicken meat and bland slightly watery porridge. Pretty big dining space and it's super casual. It's an umm-kay weekday busy cheap lunch option if you live/work in the area.
