Delighted with the experience at Gunter’s. Friendly personnel and very good quality food. Tried the corned beef hash with fried banana which was awesome! I will be back for sure in my next visit.

Love their food, great coffee! The service is excellent, they deserve large tips!!
Very welcoming and attentive service. Sometimes it can get hectic but I never feel ignored
I'm a sucker for old-fashioned diners, the ones that seem stuck in time, stubbornly holding on to nostalgia when it was king in its glory days, back before chain restaurants and cookie-cutter decor and brands.
They hold a special allure when you're traveling down the byways where they still thrive, but they're especially precious when you find them in urban areas where they compete with fast-food conglomerates.
So I don't take places like Gunter's for granted, an old establishment (South San Francisco) in the midst of urban blandness of homogeneity. They're still places where old men gather swapping tall tales and spar politics over Farmer Brothers coffee brand to while their time away.
This genre seems to be a fleeting gem of Americana as I see many of them boarded up and closed down even along the blue highways. So in your travels, take a moment to patronize these places before too many of them disappear as victims of people's preference for national brands and indifference.
Excellent service! Staff was so very kind! Prices were reasonable, particularly the daily specials. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were amazing! would recommend
I’ve been eating at Gunther‘s for years and the last time I was there was a reminder of how great they are and what a family oriented piece of south San Francisco. They have become.
Poor management and very rude wait staff. I ordered the corn beef hash and because I said hash Benedict he brought out the Canadian ham Benedict and I told him I ordered the hash Benedict. He said I could order another plate but I would have to pay for the one he first brought out. Asked for the manager and she was actually even worse. The original waiter was walking around swearing and mumbling under his breath. DO NOT EAT HERE. It’s also very filthy dirty and carpet looks disgusting. I read another review and they have rat problems there as well. I will never step foot in there again 🤢
Helped me & the fellas for some good breakfast burritos

There are very few restaurants left that are like this in the Bay Area. What makes this place special?
It's not the delicious food. It's not the large portions. It's not the ample parking Andreas access. Maybe it's the 70s retro vibes?
It must be a combination of all the above AND the amazing staff. When I dine here, the staff always makes me feel like family. Or maybe a cherished customer?
I like this place.

I asked for a hamburger well done , person who delivered the food to my table was not able to understand English well enough to answer any of my questions then delivered a 25.00 hamburger w fries that was medium rare almost raw in some parts of the meat that I had to leave knowing I made a bad decision to stay after hearing service only in Spanish, with no idea in English what ice burg lettuce is, nor how to ensure that well done means cooked thoroughly. Plus 4.50 for a soda & 18.00 for a uncooked meal was a mean thing to do to any American.

My friend told me about this spot, decided to give it a try after work and was surprised they open very early. Family owned place that’s filled with many choices to choose from. Great service and definitely will be back!
