Oh snap. I dropped in less than a hour before closing on a weekend, probably not the best time. I have been here several times before many years ago though. Good memories of a classic hot dog. But this time was different.
Dad’s Hot Dogs is a Stockton, CA, legend. They have been around since 1979. Classic 1980s hot dog counter joint complete with coin twist candy machines. But with modern feels. Not locked in time. Different owners now from the original. They use the same hot dog brand. If it ain't broke.
There was one staff person and she was a one person crew. Cashiering, putting the orders together, and cleaning up. She was helpful with a calm, pleasant easy going demeanor. I ordered a kraut dog and hubs a dog with onions, relish, tomatoes, and mustard. The dogs were on the softer side, probably left in the steamer a bit too long. Because of that, they didn't have a snap to it. But the snap is an iconic part of a quality hot dog eating experience. It is so satisfying to hear it and feel that bite. The buns tasted soft steamed as well. I also ordered the fresh squeezed lemonade. It was mild tasting and definitely tasted home made. The sauerkraut was in the perfect middle meaning not crunchy and not overly fermented to have a sour taste.
The seasonal fresh lemonade is an awesome down home touch. If you like it extra sweet, just add sugar yourself and adjust. I like it the way it was. Hubs brought on the sugar. $5 for 32 oz. They have 7 flavors beyond the original.
I am bumping my rating by a star to four; they just need to work on the hot dog rotation to make sure they do not sell any mushy dogs through closing time.
Best hot dog spot in town! Dogs are quality & portions are generous. Staff is friendly and enjoyable! They have been around since I was a child and before and they keep a nostalgic vibe. Love Dads!!!
Good hot dogs both regular and chili cheese. Family owned locally employing Stocktons youth
Everything was wonderful
11/23/2024 About a week ago I picked up a dad's hotdog, a chili cheese dog, and a Chicago dog. I had the dad's and it was very good. I liked the flavor of the hotdog. My friend liked the chili and cheese dog. There was a lot of chili and cheese with the hotdog. The Chicago dog was bought with just tomato and mustard. My friend said it was good. The customer service was excellent and friendly.
Love this place so much, ask them to toast your bun. The Chilli dog is my favorite ? I don't care it's not cheap I love this place.

First off there’s not a hotdog in this universe that’s worth eight dollars. Secondly, why is the combo price? Double what a single hotdog is. My wife and I walked into this place knowing that it’s been here a long time. We haven’t really tried it and we turned around and walked out. The place seems dirty out of date And not very popular how they manage to stay open this long I don’t know. Honestly, what you have is a hotdog place that is charging stadium prices for their food. I know things have gotten bad in the economy, but there’s no way that I would pay eight dollars or more for a hotdog From mom and Pop shop.

Would be nice if they stayed open until actual closing time. Showed up Sunday at 5;40 to grab some dinner and they locked the doors early and were cleaning up inside. The hours show open until 6pm. Apparently they must not need the business.

I am African-American maybe a lot of African-Americans don't go there but I sat there they did not say one word to me the whole time as they conversated with other guests they thank other guests for coming in but didn't think me at all when I left. I ordered two hot dogs they forgot one I asked for it. The owner I guess the guy with the beard make me feel uncomfortable the guy didn't apologized for forgetting it bad experience the chili seemed a little old I also have a slight tummy and head ache.. for me I'm done God bless

I appreciate a good hot dog, what I appreciate even more than that is wonderful customer service. I felt like I wanted to go in the back and hang with them all day! What a great location. If you haven't stopped by and tried at least once I highly recommend! Great Dogs!! There is something on the menu for everyone!! Thank you! Personally recommend a chilli cheese or the Cajun hot link!! You will be satisfied!! Keep them dogs coming!!

*DONT WASTE UR MONEY HERE ON MEDIOCRE HOTDOG*
Ordered a chicago hotdog and a chilli cheese dog.
Went here thinking im getting a great home made hot dog, with home made buns, with home made relishes etc.
Nope. Want a salty hotdog the size of ur thumb? Heres the place.
Want a nice soft fluffy hotdog heated hotdog bun? Nope, thin soggy steamer heated bun.
Want to pay $30+ for two soggy bun salty hotdogs with packaged shredded cheese? Youve come to the right place.
Go to costco, for a $1.50 you get large hotdog on nice fluffy warm buns and a drink.
Wish i went to 7/11 instead.
