This restaurant is one of those hole in the wall place. Restaurant has a lot of seatings where you could distant yourself during covid. I ordered the pork curry and rice and it came with a salad. Service and food is great. Will come again.

I have been going to Gombei Bento since July 2011 when I relocated to Bay Area from NYC, I have been a regular customer for many years now. I typically call in as I drive home, and my orders are always ready for take out in about 5-10 minutes. The food is incredibly well priced, since most of the combinations are in the $7-9 range. Here are typical must have: Katsu Don, Soy Ramen, Katsu Curry and the Katsu Curry. The portions are pretty generous. The service is awesome, amazing and attentive. The owner Cliff and his team are incredibly nice and friendly. They only thing I'd want them to change. They aren't open for Sunday lunch time. :)

Gombei Bento used to be my go-to place for homestyle Japanese food for years, but the pandemic has not been good for them. We recently ordered take out on two separate occasions and neither were even close to what their food used to be. In fact, the beef teriyaki was cold and tough, and even the veggies were cold and greasy. (Yes, we went back a second time just in case the first one was just bad luck/day). Hopefully, they'll get back to their previous standards once this Covid craziness is under some semblance of normal, and we can come back.

I ordered Pork Kantu curry. It tasted good, very good Japanese fast food restaurant. The veggi in the salad is very fresh. I will recommend this store to my friend.

I regret not coming here when I was working/living in Sunnyvale! I was in downtown MV and wanted to grab katsu curry but nothing was open until 11:30am. I drove here after seeing reviews and got takeout. I ordered a pork katsu curry, side of Saba fish and non sweet soymilk. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I waited 5-8 min for my food. The pork was crispy but juicy with well seasoned crust. The bowl of curry was generous (enough for a second meal if you make your own rice). It is a thick flavorful mixture with other veggies/chicken(?) swimming in it but not overly salty. Just opening the container, the smell of curry made my mouth water. I didn’t get to finish all of the pork nor Saba. No room left in my stomach for the salad that comes with the meal. I liked how you can pretty much add a side of anything to your order. I was going to order 2 entrees but thankfully I didn’t have to. The side of Saba had cooked veggies at the bottom which was great compared to some places that lay down a piece of lettuce. The soymilk had a deep soybean flavor that stands out without needing sugar to make it tasty. It doesn’t have preservatives. I’ll probably be making a drive up to gombei whenever I’m in the mood for Japanese curry and comfort food…or maybe just for the soymilk. It’s tastier than Asian grocery stores or restaurants that I’ve bought from in the Bay Area.

I'd been wanting to try Gombei Bento since moving to Sunnyvale as it's just a minute drive from my place! I phoned in my order for lunch, and I got a time estimate of 10-15 minutes. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant with plenty of spaces to share between businesses. I got the chicken katsu curry with a side of chicken karaage. The katsu curry came with rice and salad. The curry was just as I expect from Japanese curry, so no complaints there! I also loved that it came with pickled veggie on the side, though I could've definitely done with more. The chicken katsu was okay; it wasn't dry, but the breading didn't taste super fresh. The chicken karaage, on the other hand, was delicious! It was cooked well and juicy still. I think I'd get the karaage curry next time. It was fairly inexpensive as well compared to other spots, so I'll definitely come back when I'm craving curry or a bento!

I like arrowhead, so here I am doing this review. Food here is pretty damn good, would eat here over and over again.

I was craving authentic katsu curry and wanted to find a local spot to try out. Gombei Bento did not disappoint! The portion was decent for the price of $12.25. You get to pick between pork or chicken katsu and white steamed rice or vegetable fried rice. Their fried tofu side was also amazing and flavorful for only $5.75. I was very satisfied with this pick and 100% will be back for more!

Very honest people, the three guys that work at the front are AWSOME! 6/21 forgot I left my wallet on the table while I was waiting for my food. Honestly couldn't remember where I had left it or dropped it (2 other possible places) I went back to Gombei next day and before I asked them anything one of the guys opened a drawer pulled out my wallet and gave it to me. Definitely saved me a lot of time at DMV.Love their food! large portions and great taste!THANKS GUYS!

Always my go to place for some bento. The only downside is they're not open for dinner! But the best beef teriyaki I've ever had (so tender!) and generous portions! Love it!

We had the chicken teriyaki and the California rolls. Serving sizes were generous but taste was mediocre. Won't be back.

Love this restaurant. Have to find excuses to drive here for lunch. Everything I've had is delicious. I'm not usually a fan of tofu but their homemade tofu is really good. The salad which comes with many of the meals comes with an outstanding dressing, I wish I could get a salad meal with that dressing!

Big portion for the price and quality remain almost the same during pandemic but selections reduced. A few stuff I like is not available to order take out . Of course the review on quality is more on the bento and fast take out level, don't compare them with regular gourmet Japanese restaurants , they are after all a bento place. They are only open for lunch M-F , business seems got impacted a lot based on the observations of the few times I went there to pick up food. I hope they can survive and pull through the tough time.

Got Chicken tarriyaki and kastu, something like that. The fried rice was coarse and chunky, meat was plenty, however overall it was flavorless, would not recommend.
