I came to Gumbas for the first time on Sunday night he was very kind and the food was good
My husband and I visited the place for the first time today. We ordered a veg penne arbiata which was good, veg calzones, and Tuscany bread. I have no complaints about the food but the billing. We had a bill of $54 but got charger for $72. We paid the bill in that moment, but my husband and I got into the discussion that amount seems weird and incorrect. The server came and asked for the tip after the bill being paid, but since the calculation was off we requested for receipt. To which he started saying that its okay you do not need to tip me, we again asked for the receipt saying we would like to pay the tip, to which he was saying it's okay it's okay.
The whole situation seemed weird to both of us, and we did realized that they had charged 25% tip already in the $54 bill + taxes and hence the amount was $72.02.
I don't think we would be going back to the place even though food was good.

Delicious food and experience! Minestrone soup is so warm, complimentary garlic bread with every meal. Pastas and pizzas are divine, great spot in Downtown Sunnyvale!
Great spot! Really nice outdoor seating. Food was absolutely outstanding. Great drinks and desserts. Excellent service

The homemade clamchowder got my attention since it's flavorful and rich without being salty. The lenguine pasta and the combo pizza has good portions and generous toppings. Overall, the very good food and the friendly staff made me open my phone to give this restaurant a 5-star review.

Gumba's Italian Restaurant is located at the very walkable town center of Sunnyvale. Super! In summer evenings, they spread out on the walkable street. Nice! There was a saxophonist playing right across. Sweet! I have no compliant about food. (Deserts are better than main dish and appetizer in my opinion.) This would make an enjoyable dining experience if not for the lousy service.
When we arrived around 5:45pm on a Friday evening, there was barely any diner. The waiter was quick to take order. But after food came, they didn't come to take out used plates. With the extremely tiny round table and two empty apetizer dishes, we could barely eat main dishes normally.
The entire time we were there, the dining areas inside and out were mostly empty. After we finished the main dishes, we had to wait like 20 minutes before someone showed up to remove the plates. This photo of empty plates standing atop the tiny table was the result of my bored waiting. There was no waiter around I could wave down.
Even after empty plates were gone, desserts took another 10 minutes to come. The bill came shortly after desserts, and I put my card in the bill like I do in every other restaurant. We took our time to enjoy the desserts. But no one came to collect pay card. I had to walk in - like 10 minutes after we finished (for a total of nearly half hour since the card was visible on the table). As the sole person in that area, I stood at the counter for like 5 more minutes till someone attended to set up transaction.
Murphy Avenue has no shortage of of nice restaurants to enjoy outdoor dining and free music, some of them in the immediate vincity of Gumba's. I cannot find a good reason to go back.

It was solid. The pesto chicken sandwich was good. The calzone was okay, it felt like there was more cheese than toppings. For the price, the portions are quite large and we were able to have a second lunch the next day with the leftovers, however the take away boxes were not the best. The boxes were a bit soggy the next day. The service was a bit slow for a Saturday afternoon, it seemed like there was only one server, but he was really nice. If in the area again, would consider going back
We had dinner at Gumbas on Sunday evening (after a hiatus of a few years) and truly enjoyed the authentic and heaping servings of dishes served( Scampi on linguini and Meatballs on spaghetti). The service was outstanding with Sophia even reheating one of the dishes as someone had to step away to take a call. Truly one of the old style restaurants that provides great meals at a reasonable price.

I waited too long to give this place a shot. I just finally ate here and it was perfect. Have been wanting to try it for a while but never wanted a heavy meal and this was not heavy Italian food! The outdoor seating was a perfect romantic scene on the Murphy strip. They had a piano player and candle light on the table for dinner service. The waiter was excellent. He timed everything just right, was not at the table too much or too little, and made great food recommendations (there is a lot to choose from on the menu). The food seems to be authentic Italian cuisine. The pasta did not weigh me down or make me feel sleepy/sluggish at all after eating it. Everything has a lightness to it, but was still very satisfying. They have gluten free and dairy free options. 1 Appetizer, 2 drinks, one entree with soup or salad, and 1 dessert were under $70 total, so I consider this place to be reasonably priced, especially for the quality of food and service you get.
