Tl;dl Chicken. Chicken Legs.Ok let me give some background. Before Shah there was a wonderful Pakistani restaurant called Shalimar and at one time they expanded everywhere including Sunnyvale but now you need to go to Fremont (the original one) to taste it.And once Shalimar moved out of Sunnyvale I come to Shah if I don't feel like going to Fremont. Btw there is also Shan Restaurant nearby so don't be confused.Shah serves Pakistani food which is basically the same as Northern Indian food (but Indians won't include Pakistani in the name whereas most Pakistan restaurants will say Pakistani and Indian food.).The interesting thing about Pakistani restaurants is their tandoori chicken is usually better tasting than Indian restaurants maybe because they bake them fresh instead of serving them in buffets. Hence the chickens are moist and flavorful. There is a slight kick to it so make sure you prepare for it. It's also bone in but I highly recommend you try the chicken legs. But of course you can opt for chicken breast which is bigger but less flavorful. The naan is also amazing since it's also baked fresh from the tandoori oven. The naan here is slightly thinner than those from Shalimar so I like them better here. The restaurant is clean and bigger than it looks from outside. This is a no hassle restaurant so you get tea, utensils and water yourself. I kinda like it that way. Also tipping is really optional so do it if you want to but not required. The server is usually fairly nice and they will bring out your food after you order and pay.Overall I like the restaurant and it's next to the strip mall next to El Pollo Loco.

This is hands-down the best tandoori chicken I’ve had. Strongly recommend the garlic naan and chicken jalfrezi. The owner is extremely hospitable and a great host. Can’t wait to be back here!
Best Indian food we had in US. Tried the butter garlic naan, kabab and biriyani.

Stopped by for a quick dinner. It was quick service. The food was excellent but on the spicy side. Host cordial.
I just ordered tandoori and they burnt it to black. When I asked them they try to convince me that's the way it will be and after shouting they gave money in cash and asked me not to comeback. Please check the photo and decide to go or

I grew up in the 2000's here and there was this place called Shalimar on this same street (El Camino Real) and it was my favorite takeout place. The Naan + Chicken Tikka Masala was such a unique and excellent taste. Unfortunately, they closed few years back.I was shocked to realize the taste in this Shah was the exact same. The consistency is commendable. Though the prices have gone up in these 20 years, not once did that ever-so unique and brilliant taste ever differ. As a child in the 2000's till today in 2024 it has been the same. If you are looking for some Indo-Pakistani food around this area, this is a good option. Be sure to take the tea when you go to pick up the food. It is quietly great.

If you are willing to compromise a bit on ambience, Shah's restaurant offers delicious Punjabi food with value for money. We tried paneer achari and veg kofta. Both were good, paneer achari was outstanding. The utensils showed signs of wear and even was not cleaned properly apparently. That's definitely an area of improvement.
