The Best Mahashtrian Seafood in USA. My kids love the place, owner is very friendly. Celebrated my daughter’s birthday today and she loved Surmai fry, Pomfret rava fry and Prawns Thali.
Highly recommend konkani, maharashtrians, indians to try sea-food.

Restaurantji Recommends
The Thali with paplet fried fish and fish curry:
Fried fish was fried to perfection but the fish itself wasn’t fresh to begin with. The curry fish was passable. Overall 3/5
Chicken masala: chicken was tender with good curry flavor: 5/5
This is a seafood restaurant so we had high expectations for the fried fish and the fish curry but we weren’t impressed.

The food is too good! And Trely treated me very well with great customer service!
Food was amazing! The surmai rava fry, and the Mutton Masala were by far and away the best dishes! Trely was very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend !

A DISAPPOINTING Return to What Was Once a Favorite..
I visited Surmai last year and was absolutely blown away by the flavors. The food was so delicious that I genuinely wished I lived in San Francisco just so I could eat there every week. So naturally, when I returned to SFO recently, the first place I wanted to go was Surmai. My husband and I rushed there with empty stomachs, excited to relive that amazing culinary experience.
Unfortunately, this visit was a huge letdown.
The surmai was sliced so thin it barely felt like a proper serving, and shockingly, it lacked even basic seasoning—no salt. We also ordered the prawns thali, and the curry was unexpectedly sweet, which felt completely off for a restaurant that is famous to serve Konkani cuisine. If you're branding yourself as a Maharashtrian restaurant, please consider the authentic taste preferences of Konkani people. I understand the need to cater to a broader audience, including Americans, but when Indian guests visit, it would be great to ask about spice levels or offer customization.
Beyond the food, the service was also disappointing. The server barely paid attention to us, and we had to wait a long time before anyone even acknowledged our table. To make matters worse, the food was served cold, which was completely unexpected given our previous experience. I not only felt bad about the taste and service, but also about spending $30 per thali, which was absolutely not worth it.
I’m sharing this review not out of frustration, but in the hope that it helps improve things. Last year’s visit was memorable in the best way, and I truly hope Surmai can return to that standard. I’d love to come back again and enjoy the same amazing taste that made me fall in love with the place.
