This place is the most good place to enjoy the real japanese izakaya food and drinking. However, you need to check the availability of empty seat so advanced reservation will be mandatory.

Nice atmosphere. Pricey. A little slow with service but very polite. Not quite what I expected for an izakaya but the clam ramen was awesome.

It has been awhile since I have eaten here at Tanto, and I am happy with the meal, it was delicious. We ordered the sashimi salad, grilled beef tongue, the 2 crispy rice, clams with butter sauce and the uni pasta with egg roe and the small format junmai daiginjo. We loved everything, the grilled dish was tender and seasoned to perfection, the clam soup was hot and delicious with fatty clams, the salad was fresh with chunks of sashimi. The two dishes that I am still dreaming about are 1. the crispy rice with salmon, the crispy crust contrasting with the soft rice and salmon in the middle - OMG - I'll order 2 next time; 2. The uni pasta, so creamy, seasoned to perfection and every bite I took, I wanted to take more :) ... The sake was a perfect compliment to the meal, I walked out a very happy customer 10/10

A trusted place for good quality of food. Although seasoning is not consistent. When in doubt, Tanto is still a good place for a good meal.

The food here is incredible! Portions are large, I way over ordered but was happy to eat leftover steak, mentai pasta and crab and egg for lunch the next day. The garlic steak is a sleeper - highly recommend.
Got there on a Thursday around 630pm, put my name on a list, and waited outside for about 15 minutes.

The biggest difference compared to izakayas in Japan? Last call is at 8:30 PM -- way too early! Most izakayas in Japan stay open until midnight or later, so this felt a bit rushed.
That said, overall it was a solid experience, and the bill was lower than I expected for the amount and quality of food. I'll definitely be back -- just a bit earlier next time!

Great service , we would barely look up and the waiter was already heading towards us . 10/10 on service and atmosphere . You also get a lot of food for a low price . Easily shareable plates
We got here at 5:45 PM on 5/13/2025. We did not have a reservation so we arrived before the opening time of 6:00 PM. We had no problem of getting a table since there was only a party of 8 before us. Easy parking. The restaurant was small. The food was delicious. Service was excellent. The price was fair. The only thing was that there was a little piece of shell in the soup that I bite into it.

The management and the staff get arrogant and downright rude as popularity rises.
Food is good, but prices have gone up and their menu has changed over the past 5 years, and my favorite dishes are no longer there! :(
Beef tongue is very delicious!
You can eat delicious Japanese food!

Food is really good. Stuff works really well. It is a little busy and small place, so it isn't sometimes comfortable enough, but still great place to go.
