This is my favorite Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. You don't know what real Japanese food is until you have eaten here. Been going for years and its consistently good every time. I'd give stars if I could

Kushiyu: A Premier Sushi Experience
Kushiyu holds the distinction of being the first sushi restaurant I visited over thirty years ago. Introduced by my good friend Marco, I was initially hesitant to try sushi. However, it quickly became my favorite cuisine.
The albacore sushi was impeccably chilled, with a texture that melted in my mouth. The white rice was perfectly prepared, complemented by an exquisite dressing that subtly enhanced the fresh taste of the albacore.
The atmosphere at Kushiyu is vibrant and uplifting, thanks to the spirited sushi chefs. Their culinary expertise is evident in the beautifully presented sushi, each piece a mouthwatering masterpiece. My personal favorite is the Spicy Tuna Sushi, featuring fresh chopped tuna with just the right amount of spice, green onions, and a light dressing atop a quickly fried square of rice.
Over the years, I have visited numerous sushi restaurants, but none compare to the freshness of the fish, the quality of the food, the lively atmosphere, and the friendliness of the sushi chefs at Kushiyu. I extend my gratitude to Taka and Elilio, who have been crafting my favorite dishes since day one.
I highly recommend Kushiyu and can confidently assert that it offers an exceptional dining experience.

For a quick bite itās great as the food is fresh and delicious.
Itās busy and just doesnāt have a nice āDate vibeā so donāt plan on that.
Thereās parking but being shared with other restaurants so itās usually packed.
The guys behind the bar are wonderful but some of the waitresses are Not very inviting.
I would definitely go back for the food although itās a bit pricey.

You know how tipping culture has become insane over the last decade? How it went from optional to show gratitude for a job well done to a mandatory tax? And because of that, how waiters have become entitled to a 20% minimum gratuity without feeling the need to earn it for exceptional service? You pay it because itās expected not because it was deserved. Wellā¦
Itās been YEARS since Iāve had an experience at a restaurant where the entire staff as a WHOLE just completely blew me away. I mean every single person here was just on top of it, and were out of their way nice and happy to their customers. I mean it was kinda unbelievable. Ever since Covid the level of service you expect from restaurants just went off a cliff, but here you are in an alternate universe. I mean the level of attention to your table is just amazing. Finished plates donāt sit on your table for more than 2 minutes before someone comes to collect it. Ask your waiter for anything, they respond with a genuine smile and return within 60 seconds. Ask another waiter (not your waiter) for something? They wonāt tell you to ask to your waiter, they will help with whatever you need themselves. The food of course was incredible, but I really want to harp on the excellence in service. Itās not an easy job for management to identify and retain great people with great service, attitudes, and personality. And itās not easy for staff to please everyone. Somehow these guys have done it. Bravo to the management and the staff on an excellent job. I hope others restaurants can take notes.
So back to my original question⦠yea tip culture is insane, but for the first time in a long time the tip I paid felt very well deserved and I was happy, no, eager, to pay it, unlike all the other times where after tipping I felt like I had just been taxed.

I've always loved this placeāperfect for a date night. The sushi is solid, but the real standout is the skewers, especially if you're doing keto. They're flavorful and satisfying without the carbs. The sake is great too, just enough to give you a nice buzz. Cozy atmosphere, good food, and great drinks make it a go-to in my book.

Definitely among the best chirashi bowls in the Valley. First time back since the remodel. It was worth the wait.
We came here (the two of us) on a Friday night. There would have been a wait as we needed a reservation but there was room at the sushi bar. In my opinion the Sushi Bar at Kushiyu is fantastic. Itās a square in the center of the restaurant. The decor is nice and at the bar itās not noisy at all.
Behind the counter are loads of Sushi Chefs. The amount of staff is truly mind boggling. Amazing service.
Now the food. There are too many options in the valley when it comes to sushi. Iāve been to a bulk of them. Tonight we decided to try Kushiyu. To me, this is a proper Japanese restaurant with a huge menu of Kushiyaki. So many options for these tasty skewers. The Kushiyaki is really well priced. Itās the special items that get you. Yes, the food is expensive, but for these special cuts of fish, and how fresh the fish is here, it feels priced competitively to the rest of the amazing sushi places in LA.
Tonight we worked the Nigiri hard. Went down the list of daily specials and fish from Japan. Everything was extremely fresh and incredibly flavorful. I canāt believe I havenāt been here before. I will definitely be coming back. Amazing selection, and incredibly fresh food. Highly recommend coming here if you are truly about the different varieties of fresh sushi.
Not the same restaurant after it reopened after fire closed it for few years. Used to be one of the best. Now average at best.
Sushi options are not a lot , and other food is mostly available
