I hate to leave such a negative rating because I really, really wanted to like this restaurant. The space is beautiful and the service was friendly. I used to live in Southeast Asia so I was so excited that a restaurant opened nearby with some Indonesian dishes. We tried the beef skewers. It tasted as if someone had gotten the toughest cut of meat and just barely seared it with no seasoning whatsoever. It was tasteless, and so tough we couldn't chew through it. In a word, inedible. I was so looking forward to having some flavorful satay, but I guess I'll have to keep looking.

This place was great, and here's why!... The service was really outstanding, friendly, helpful, and pleasant and added to an overall really positive experience (shout-out to Becky). The ambiance is very inviting, chic, roomy, hip, comfortable, and interesting. The food was amazing! I ordered a Normandie sandwich with fries. First of all the presentation is really beautiful and almost too-pretty-to-eat. Everything is served on dark wood cutting boards or wood bowls. The fries were good, pretty basic and fry expectations were met without issues (i had mine with spicy mayo which I recommend). I've had Normandie sandwiches before at other restaurants with the Brie really overpowering and too much, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I ordered this. The ratios were perfect. There was just enough sliver of Brie to have that creamy salty goodness but it was not overpowering at all or too rich. The arugula had been tossed in some sort of magical dressing, and the apples were blsoft enough to eat comfortably but still added a perfect amount of juicy crispiness. I'm really picky about sourdough bread and can tell an ok one from a great one. This sourdough was beyond amazing and definitely the real deal. The quality of each ingredient really added an element of dining luxury. Each bite was really delicious and enjoyable. You can tell that they take pride in their recipes and food they serve. Looking forward to taking my husband and family here.

I wanted to try out this place because it was a new place in town. The location and the vibe are very good. Both inside and outside seatings are available. The foods are very aesthetically good. 10/10 for presentation. However, the taste is not that great. I ordered Indonesian breakfast, which contained fried rice, fruits and cucumber/ tomatoes. The fried rice tasted like old foods- yes I understand that fried rice supposed to cook with at least 1- night old rice. The food was not even hot when served, and there was no flavor to the rice at all. I had to ask for extra soy sauce to add some flavor. My friend ordered açaí bowl. Again, very beautiful looking bowl made out of half of a cantaloupe, yet not tasty. The açaí was frozen- not blended with other fruit or juice like other açaí bowl places. The server was nice and offered to bring my friend some extra açaí since she said this bowl looked like it had less than how they normally served it. Hence the extra star for her, otherwise I think I would give 1 star. Sorry, I don't think I would come back!

The major complaint I have was the service, The food was yummy with large portions and a nice presentation. Having gone to this location as previous restaurants, it was nice to see some money put into the building to make the place a little more inviting. They have lovely patio seating and a beautiful bar. Unfortunately the summers are warm here and the restaurant couldn't have been any cooler than 80 degrees at 7pm. We opted to sit outside. Unfortunately, we arrived to a dirty table, We asked for it to be cleaned 3 times until it was actually wiped down, the busser then proceeded to wipe the food scraps from the table into mine and my wife's lap. We then ordered our food. The waiter couldn't answer any of the questions about the food I was unfamiliar with. But none the less still steered me in the direction of popular items on the menu. I ordered the chicken skewers and my wife had the Ahi After about 20 minutes the food arrived but we hadn't received cutlery or our drink orders yet. We asked for the items again and they arrived promptly. My initial impression is that there is a major disconnect between the service staff members. I am still willing to go back once more to give it a try and see if maybe it was just an off night for the service staff. Stay tuned

We could not be any happier that we've decided to have our small wedding here at Barong. Everyone had been so nice throughout the whole planning process. Food was great as always, service was amazing and the price was very reasonable. All of our guests had a good time, enjoyed the food and loved Noah! Haha! We can't think of anything negative to say about our experience. Chef Tony is great and very easy to talk to, Lani is always so kind and welcoming and Noah is super duper awesome! We'll keep coming back and we'll keep recommending this place.

Stopped by and tried out this new restaurant and I am happy to see the area growing and adding more unique eateries. Had lunch with my girlfriend and we had a great experience. I definitely will go back again. The salad was great and the scoop of sorbet on the ice tea was a treat! Everything is homemade in house and they even offer dessert!

was intrigued by the menu and reviews, so my oldest son and i made the pilgrimage (almost an hour each way) for a Friday lunch. very cool interior with a great vibe serving some of the most beautiful food that's ever magically appeared in front of me. be warned: Temecula in early August does NOT have a warm, tropical feel -- it was like eating in a blast furnace: high 90's outside and the heat from the kitchen made it even hotter inside. things started badly and, i have to confess, that probably colored the entire experience. was excited to try the BARONG sandwich (roasted chicken with Balinese spices, housemade aioli, and Indonesian salad on a French baguette) -- check out the owner's photo: doesn't that look like it'd be worth the drive? i thought so but the sandwich is no longer on the menu (except on-line since they haven't bothered updating their website). swallowing my disappointment, we ordered a couple of burgers (the FRENCHY and the BALI BURGER) and a PORK SKEWER with two sides and Barong sauce. the burgers were gorgeous and the toppings very interesting re-imaginings with Parisian and Balinese slants. however, those were the tiniest 7 oz patties ever. the burgers were overwhelmed by the buns which is hard to do with "nearly" half a pound of meat. compare the photo of this 7 oz pattie to the puny ones we were served: the flavors were muddled and disappointing. neither of the burgers (or the pork skewer for that matter) were cooked on a hot enough grill to develop a crust. and, for the record, just plain onions sauteed until they're barely softened do not qualify as "onion jam" like it says on the menu. the fries were undercooked and mushy. the PORK SKEWER was equally disappointing. stunning, like the burgers (my sorry photo does NOT begin to do it justice), but the flavors just didn't deliver. the meat was tender (had a tenderloin texture but was way underseasoned) and no char and the sides could kindly be described as tedious. the NASI GORENG (Indonesian fried rice, one of the world's truly amazing simple, home-style dishes) was uber minimalist -- yesterday's leftover rice (that's NOT a dig -- all good fried rice is made with yesterday's leftover rice or, better yet, from the day before that) and a little kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce). i understand it's side dish NOT an entree but they didn't even try. took home more than we ate and most of our $60 lunch went to the puppies -- don't tell anybody. i don't want tree-hugging, animal rights activists on my case ...

The restaurant is easy to spot from the road. We are from Chicago visiting friend in Temecula. The atmosphere there so friendly greeting us with smiles from the cashier, waitress and the lady behind the cashier all nice. We love it. The FOOD is delicious... order the skewers chicken, beef, pork and fish and they come with side dish. Awesome. Definitely will be back.

I love trying new places in my hometown. This was a recommendation from our friends who referred us to Chef K (which is one of our favorites in Temecula). We got the steak skewers and Chicken skewers. We tried the mango, green pepper and barong sauces - hands down the barong is the best! If you can't decide go with barong. The presentation of the food was very unique and trendy - loved it! The salad and fried rice sides were also a winner as were the fries! The biggest complaint to this place is that they do not have ice and they do not run their AC! It was a balmy 83 degrees which was not pleasant. Had to use a menu as a fan. Our service was five star service - this kid was very talented and great with customer service skills (his name is Noah and he looks like Baby Driver) - excellent service! Overall food very good and I would recommend this place. Hope it sticks around - lots of restaurant turnover in this location.

Where to start? Air Conditioning off in the restaurant so we sat outside on patio with dead plants (could be so nice with a few pots of flowers or plants that were alive). 20 minute wait for water and menus. Had to ask for ice in the water. Then another 15 for wine and finally food arrived. Skewers tasty, mac and cheese dry, house salad warm (perhaps supposed to be?). Only 2 servers on (guess several recently quit?). Gave them 1 extra star as they comped the wine for the wait and gave us a cookie. Good concept just not managed well.

Everyone needs to get over here ASAP! Their food is divine and healthy, service was amazing, and their portions are YUGE! We got the Hangry which is a 21 oz skewer of chicken, beef, and pork; two killer sauces, and two delicious sides for just $30! A perfect dinner for 2-3 people!
