Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has quickly become one of the best spots in the Temecula Valley for dessert lovers. As a recent addition to the local food scene, my wife and I love coming here to share a small butter pecan—it’s rich in flavor, perfectly sweet, and absolutely delicious. While we gravitate toward our favorite, their menu boasts a wide variety of flavors that change with the seasons, so there’s always something new to try. The staff is consistently friendly, and service is quick, making it easy to get in and out even when they’re busy. We’re thrilled to have Handel’s in town and can’t wait to bring our family when they visit.

I recently visited Handel's, and unfortunately, it wasn’t the experience I was hoping for. The biggest issue for me was how overly sweet the ice cream was. Each flavor I tried was loaded with sugar to the point where it was overwhelming and unpleasant. Not only that, but it felt incredibly unhealthy—definitely not something I’d want to indulge in regularly.

To make matters worse, the portions were enormous. While that might sound like a good thing, it was way too much, especially considering how sweet the ice cream was. What was really frustrating was that they don’t offer smaller portion sizes. Even if you ask for a smaller scoop, they’ll charge you the same amount as a full-sized serving, which felt unfair and wasteful.

If you’re someone who loves super-sweet, oversized portions and doesn’t mind the sugar overload, maybe this place will be for you. But if you’re looking for something more balanced or healthier, I’d recommend skipping Handel's. It’s just not worth it.

(3 STARS FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, OTHERWISE 5 STARS FOR THE ICE CREAM ITSELF)

For the most part, my husband and I LOVE handel’s. We try to purchase the 4 pint packs to take home and we enjoy it every time. The downfall is, there is a specific female Asian worker there, who is EXTREMELY RUDE. Today, I had my husband pick up our order as we got a text saying it was ready. He goes to the pick up window, and he didn’t even finish his sentence, to say what the name was under. she abruptly says “IM STILL WORKING ON YOUR ORDER.” And shuts the window on my husband. He waits while she finishes the order, even though I had gotten a text saying it was ready. Finally, he gets the ice cream and goes into the car to realize… IT WASNT OUR ORDER. It had a whole different name. So he goes back to the counter to let her know that this isn’t our order and it’s under a different last name. She looks into the refrigerator and takes out a bag… Lo and behold that was our order! So you’re telling me that my husband had to wait for her to finish an order that wasn’t even ours. LOL. All I’m gonna say is that I usually have a great experience at this location. Everyone is pretty nice except for this Asian girl at the to go counter. You are extremely rude and you need to learn customer service. If you are having a bad day, please don’t take it out on your customers.

Other than that, the ice cream is Amazing! I think it’s worth it for us to go there and grab a yummy treat. Like I said, even though there is one bad apple that works there, everyone else is sooo nice! I would just avoid the Asian girl, Unless you’re OK with ruining the rest of your day with a bad mood. LOL

The Ice cream is great. Service is typically good. Of the two girls working today, one seemed bothered to be there and of course that was the one that served us.

“You can be a cowboy on the moon. Dig to China with a spoon. Talk to Jesus on the phone. Say ‘I love you’ all day long. And when you’re wrong, you should just say so.

I learned that from a 3 year old.”
Eric Church

Talking with a 3 year old is almost always an enlightening experience, but if you introduce ice cream to the equation you significantly increase your odds of being on the receiving end of some undeniable wisdom.

For example, during this visit to Handel’s (this 3 year old’s favorite ice cream destination) I was informed, “I’m turning 4 soon, but don’t worry. I’ll still like you.”

I mean, how could one even begin to question such logic? Clearly a 3 year old is far more qualified than an adult to understand the complexities of crossing the 4 year old threshold (and thank goodness I was reassured that our relationship will remain in tact once she does. ?)

I wonder if when this 3 year old told me that “ice cream is my favorite thing in the world” she was expressing appreciation for how ice cream can have the effect of bringing us closer together. I mean, why is it that we are often unwilling to share our traffic lane while driving, but voluntarily offer to share our ice cream with others? This kid just might be onto something here. ?

3 year olds + ? = smiles

And that’s…Henry’s Take.

This was my first time trying their ice cream and I thought it was excellent. The cones are also excellent. I tried the coconut caramel delight and was blown away. My husband had the blue monster but it wasn’t very creamy - after’s ice cream has a better version of the blue monster in our opinion.

Handel’s is alright! We were here on a Saturday night and clearly there was an issue with service, namely with the managing of the line. So many people and eventually we were ALL told to go outside, but the management of it ended there. Our scooper / server was an Asian man with glasses and very speedy. The rest working seemed to be moving slowly, but also for the crowd tonight, it seemed to me they needed a lot more employees. I got a Diet Coke float which honestly was good, but not wait-in-a-line-for-30-45-minutes level of good. Mixed feelings about the place, and if I had a choice, would go to mariposa ice cream nearby instead.

Yummy ice cream at Handel’s! We ordered mediums but the waffle cones are still overflowing! We loved our flavors, graham canyon and chocolate chunk for one and coconut pineapple and black cherry for the other. We also got a pup cup! There’s a lot of nice tables outside to sit and eat at. Recommend!

We have a Handel's relatively close to our house and have never gone lol. Stumbled into this on a road trip, so decided to finally try it. Great choices, a LOT of ice cream, even on a small, and very reasonable. This place was hopping, but still got served really fast. Yummy...
